Can a New York MCA Lender Freeze My Business Bank Account in Michigan?
Did a New York merchant cash advance (MCA) lender freeze your Michigan business bank account, threaten garnishment, or file a lawsuit against your company?
Whether your business operates in Detroit, Grand Rapids, Warren, Sterling Heights, Ann Arbor, or another Michigan city, losing access to your checking account can threaten payroll, vendor payments, and daily operations.

Can a New York MCA Lender Freeze My Michigan Business Bank Account?

Michigan business owners sometimes obtain merchant cash advances from New York funding companies. When payments stop, MCA lenders may pursue lawsuits, default judgments, and collection proceedings.
Missing an MCA payment does not automatically authorize a New York lender to freeze your Michigan business bank account.
Michigan generally requires a judgment and appropriate garnishment procedures for ordinary judgment-based bank garnishment. New York judgments may be enforceable under Michigan's Uniform Enforcement of Foreign Judgments Act.
However, jurisdiction, proper notice, judgment validity, and collection procedures may affect available defenses.
If your MCA lender froze your business checking account, seek legal guidance promptly.

How Do I Unfreeze My Business Bank Account in Michigan?

If an MCA lender has restricted your operating funds, a qualified attorney may evaluate whether you can:

Challenge an improper MCA bank garnishment or account restraint.

Seek relief from a default judgment when legally justified.

Examine whether a New York judgment was properly filed and enforced in Michigan.

Review MCA contracts, ACH authorizations, reconciliation provisions, and personal guarantees.

Negotiate with the MCA funder to seek release of restricted business funds.

Do not ignore a merchant cash advance lawsuit, garnishment notice, summons, or judgment. Legal deadlines may affect your options.
