We are excited to hold Open Mic Night in hybrid form, both in-person at HVWC and virtually!

Physical and virtual doors open at 7:20 pm for event starting at 7:30 pm. Due to popular demand to participate, we’ve had to limit the amount of readers to 20.

All performers, whether “in person” or on Zoom, will be given a 5 minute spot. The “in person” performers at HVWC will perform. The online, virtual performers will also take their turns. Due to the new zoom technology installed at HVWC both groups will be able to see each other perform. Both groups will have 10 “performer” spots available to them.

We will have a virtual audience as well as a live audience!&nbsp;Virtual audience seats&nbsp;are free and unlimited, as long as you pre-register below. The Zoom link will be sent the day of the event.&nbsp;A limited number of free&nbsp;“in person” audience seats&nbsp;will be available to those who pre-register. There will be no seats available on the night of the Open Mic. You MUST pre-register.

All genres welcome&nbsp;—&nbsp;fiction, non-fiction, poetry, music, comedy, storytelling, other. Open Mic will give you an opportunity to share your talents in a nurturing, comfortable space with some great people.&nbsp;Your<a target="_blank" href="https://writerscenter.kindful.com/" rel="nofollow noopener">&nbsp;donations are welcome</a>!

Join the editors of Slapering Hol Press (SHP) and the Hudson Valley Writers Center for a hybrid (both in-person and virtual) reading featuring poets and translators from SHP's Meridian Series of Contemporary Chinese Poets. The reading will feature poets Lan Lan and Quan Zi, and the work of Huang Jiyun and Zhang Shuguang. If you are joining us virtually, please register through this ticket to receive the Zoom link. 

Wang Jiaxin, Director of the Meridian Poets Series, will introduce the poets featured in the series. Lan Lan and Quan Zi will perform live readings of their works.

Join us for a reading from <a target="_blank" href="https://bookshop.org/p/books/when-all-the-men-wore-hats-susan-cheever-on-the-stories-of-john-cheever-susan-cheever/c75fe0fceddfdd8d?ean=9780374600990&amp;next=t" rel="nofollow noopener">When All the Men Wore Hats</a>, a sympathetic and illuminating account of the intersecting life and work of the legendary writer John Cheever, as told by his eldest daughter, Susan Cheever. Susan will be joined by her brother, fellow writer Benjamin H. Cheever, for a conversation about writing, the family legacy, and the connections between art and life. 

Ticket price includes a copy of When All the Men Wore Hats, as well as access to a light reception with wine and hors'd oeuvres provided by Evelyn Hadad. 

BIOS
Susan Cheever is the author of many books on American history, including Drinking in America: Our Secret History. She is also the author of numerous novels; a biography of the Alcoholics Anonymous cofounder Bill Wilson; and Home Before Dark, a memoir about her father, John Cheever. She teaches at Bennington College and the New School in their MFA programs.

Benjamin Cheever has been published in The New York Times, The New Yorker, Gourmet, Runner’s World.&nbsp; He has taught at Bennington College, The New School for Social Research and the Hudson Valley Writers Center.&nbsp; He also published a book on running titled Strides, and a book on employment titled SELLING BEN CHEEVER.&nbsp; He edited The Letters of John Cheever and published four novels: The Plagiarist, The Partisan, Famous After Death and The Good Nanny.&nbsp; He has been at work for twenty years now on a book about dogs.&nbsp; He lives in Croton on Hudson with his beloved dog, Fifi.&nbsp;
