Join The Hudson Valley Writers Center (HVWC) and Hudson Valley Books for Humanity (HVBH) for Draft n' Drink! Meet us for an evening of writing prompts and exercises, a beverage, and a fun and casual environment where we can write creatively in community. Participation in the guided writing exercises is voluntary, and participants can share their work in small and large groups towards the end of the session.&nbsp;

As America marks 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence, what are the stories that we have told over generations? What stories do we still have left to tell–in large and small communities across this country? Who gets to tell and write those stories, and ensure they do not disappear? On June 18, join the Hudson Valley Writers Center, in-person or via livestream, for an epic celebration of language, community, and the power of narrative. Whether you come for five minutes, or for 250, we will be reading poetry and prose, playing music, excavating old stories and championing new voices. Together, let’s create The Word at 250.&nbsp;

The People’s Mic is more than an open mic; it’s a community gathering rooted in care, creativity, and connection, hosted by Westchester Poet Laureate Phylisha Villanueva. Join us for an evening where poets, storytellers, and musicians share space and truth. Whether you have a poem in your notes app, a song in your chest, or want to listen and be nourished by community, this space is for you. No experience required. No perfection expected, just presence.&nbsp;Centered on respect, expression, and collective care. Come to perform or witness from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. once a month.

Doors open at 6:30 pm for event starting at 7:00 pm. Register online through this ticket link to secure your performer or audience spot. We will admit folks at the door until we reach capacity, but online registration ensures your admission. 

Admission is $5.00 for everyone--no matter whether you are an audience member or a performer. 
There are 10 performance slots available in advance--through this online registration ticket. There will be a few in-person spots available as well--first-come, first-served. Each performer must respect the time limit: 3-5 minutes per person. Doña Pancha, a Mexican grandmother living with her family in the United States, longs so deeply for her homeland that she has tried more than once to slip away from home and make the journey back to Mexico. In desperation, she calls on the saints for help, including her idol, the beloved singer and actor Pedro Infante. To her surprise, Don Pedro appears before her, on the very day her granddaughter is facing a heartbreak brought on by her boyfriend’s deportation. Who will help whom? The play offers a new interpretation of what it means to live “on the other side.”
A one-act adaptation that examines the immigration crisis from both a personal and spiritual angle, and part of the trilogy Entre Dos Mundos, a celebration of Latin American culture and the resilience of the human spirit.

Desesperadamente, pide ayuda a los santos, incluyendo a su ídolo Pedro Infante. Para su sorpresa, Don Pedro se presenta ante ella, justo el día en que la nieta de Doña Pancha enfrenta una crisis de amor provocada por la deportación de su novio. ¿Quién ayudará a quién? La obra da una nueva interpretación a la frase “vivir al otro lado.”
Una adaptación en un solo acto que examina la crisis migratoria desde lo personal y lo espiritual, parte de la trilogía Entre Dos Mundos, una celebración de la cultura latinoamericana y la fuerza del espíritu humano.

Nothing says spring better than our popular Classic Design Luncheon and Lecture! We’re honored to feature Genevieve Wheeler-Brown, the author of&nbsp;<a href="https://beyondblueandwhite.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">“Beyond Blue and White.”</a>
Wheeler-Brown’s book explores the history of Delftware ceramics, focusing on the often-overlooked roles of women as makers, patrons, and collectors, from 17th-century factory owners like&nbsp;Barbara Rotteveel&nbsp;to Gilded Age collectors like&nbsp;Mrs. J. Pierpont Morgan. A must for devotees of decorative arts and the history of material culture. 
Location: The award-winning Jay Estate Gardens designed by Nelson Byrd Woltz. Co-Chairs, Tracy Edwards, Liz Garrett, Emmy Lambert, Lindsay Bello Martin and Suzanne Clary.
Guests will enjoy botanical cocktails and a tour of the blue and white blooms of our gardens at 11:30am followed by lunch and lecture at 12 Noon. Booksigning at 1:30pm. Catering provided by Scarborough Fair Catering.
Spring garden attire and hats encouraged!

GENEVIEVE WHEELER BROWN
Founding Genevieve Wheeler Decorative Art Advisory in 2003, Genevieve comes to the advisory business with more than 12 years of experience in the auction world, strong generalist knowledge and a wide range of contacts in American, European and Asian decorative and fine arts.
Genevieve began her career with Christie’s in 1992 with the European Decorative Arts Department after working as an intern at The Phillips Collection, Washington D.C. in 1990. She was then asked to run Overseas Consignments at Christie’s Park Avenue, a department that handled inquiries for European based auctions including Indian and Southeast Asian art, Islamic Art, Miniatures, Textiles and Cameras. In 1995 Genevieve became the New York contact for sales of Fabergé and Russian Silver at Christie’s Park Avenue and most recently was as a specialist in Fine Musical Instruments at Christie’s Rockefeller Center from 1998 to 2003.
While at Christie’s, she was involved with important sales such as ‘The Pine Cone Egg’ by Carl Fabergé and ‘The Taft’ Stradivari which fetched the auction record for an instrument sold in the United States. She has also been an appraiser on the PBS production ‘The Antiques Roadshow’.
A supporter of several fine and decorative art related institutions, Genevieve has served on the Board of the National Society of Colonial Dames in the State of New York, served as a member of the Young Fellows Steering Committee of the Frick Collection from 1995 to 2005 and co-Chaired the Winter Antiques Show Young Collector’s Night, New York in 2004, 2005, and 2006.
Genevieve currently advises several organizations including <a href="https://www.dumbartonhouse.org/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Dumbarton House</a>, a Federal period house museum in Georgetown, as a board member as well as for <a href="https://www.thewintershow.org/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">The Winter Show</a> as a vice-chair of Opening Night and as co-founder of The Winter Show Luncheon.About The Jay Heritage Center
