Join us for a work-in-process concert of excerpts from The Cut Loose: A Harlem Brownstone Ritual, followed by a conversation with the audience.
The Cut Loose will premiere next year as an immersive experience in a Harlem brownstone transformed into a living archive of Black cultural memory. This performance at the David Rockefeller Creative Arts Center offers an early look, as award-winning choreographer and director Jeffrey Page and his creative team present a selection of songs from the show.
The Cut Loose centers on Mimi and her profound love for Kidd Bunky, a man who is brilliant, charismatic, full of promise, and notoriously unfaithful. When Mimi realizes love has not made him hers, she turns to Marie Laveau, the legendary 19th-century New Orleans spiritual leader who was both a lifelong Roman Catholic and the city’s most renowned Voudou priestess.
What first appears to be a house gathering reveals itself as a New Orleans jazz funeral. It is not only a farewell to Kidd Bunky, but also a collective act of release, honoring the people, traditions, and moments that shape us even as they move beyond our grasp.
Inspired by Arthur Hall’s groundbreaking 1977 production Fat Tuesday &amp; All That Jazz, this new work explores Black Mardi Gras, Black Masking traditions, New Orleans ritual life, jazz, and cultural survival. Rather than reconstructing Hall’s original work, The Cut Loose enters into dialogue with it, asking how these traditions evolved as they traveled across generations and geographies.
Blending theater, music, ritual, and communal experience, The Cut Loose is a celebration of resilience, remembrance, and transformation. It is an invitation to honor what we love by learning how to let it move.&nbsp;
This event will be followed by a reception in the DR Center Gallery, now showing <a href="https://www.rbf.org/pocantico/events/woven-wonders-kykuits-picasso-tapestries" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Woven Wonders: Kykuit’s Picasso Tapestries</a>.&nbsp;
Guests may arrive 45 minutes prior to the event start time to enjoy the new <a href="https://www.rbf.org/pocantico/historic-site-tours/dr-center-temporary/sculpture-walk" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Sculpture Walk</a> outside the DR Center. Please note that events will begin promptly at their scheduled start time. Latecomers will be seated at the discretion of staff.

As part of his residency at The Pocantico Center, artist Alejandro Piñeiro Bello opens his studio inside the David Rockefeller Creative Arts Center to the public. Visitors will also be able to visit the DR Center Gallery, now showing <a href="https://www.rbf.org/pocantico/events/woven-wonders-kykuits-picasso-tapestries" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Woven Wonders: Kykuit’s Picasso Tapestries</a>.
Piñeiro Bello will be presenting a new body of watercolor works developed during his time at Pocantico. Drawing on the landscape, architecture, and history of the estate grounds, this collection reflects his ongoing exploration of place, memory, and light through watercolor. &nbsp;
Visitors will have the opportunity to view the works in progress and speak with the artist about his process and creative influences.&nbsp;

As the sun sets, lie down and immerse yourself in the sonic landscape of gongs, singing bowls, and other harmonic instruments. Participants will engage in mindful listening and positive intention-setting, guided by sound and silence, to enter deeply relaxing, healing, and meditative states of consciousness. &nbsp;
This workshop is 75 minutes long and is open to participants aged 16 and up. &nbsp;Please bring a yoga mat and blanket. Participants will be situated on the grass.
Participants are invited to stay after the workshop to view the exhibition <a href="https://www.rbf.org/pocantico/events/woven-wonders-kykuits-picasso-tapestries" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Woven Wonders: Kykuit’s Picasso Tapestries</a> in the DR Center Gallery.&nbsp;

Stephen Morrell, horticulturalist and landscape architect, leads an intimate tour of the Rockefellers’ Japanese-style garden and a conversation on the beauty and simplicity of Japanese gardens. Morrell will discuss the evolution of centuries-old design principles that inform Japanese gardens and how they can be adapted in America.
The Japanese Garden is not ADA accessible.&nbsp;
Between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., tour attendees may also visit the gallery at the DR Center to view <a href="https://www.rbf.org/pocantico/events/woven-wonders-kykuits-picasso-tapestries" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Woven Wonders: Kykuit’s Picasso Tapestries</a>, spotlighting eight large-scale weavings from Nelson Rockefeller’s collection.
​​Some parts of this tour will require walking uphill and on slippery or uneven terrain, gravel paths, and stairs. Please wear sturdy, comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing.

Drawing inspiration from Kykuit’s stunning gardens, architecture, and landscapes, participants in this two-day immersive workshop will strengthen their drawing and painting skills while exploring the expressive possibilities of gouache. Gouache (pronounced “gwash”) is an opaque, water-based paint that combines the luminous qualities of watercolor with exceptional coverage and versatility, allowing painters to layer colors and easily rework paintings. Participants will also be introduced to acrylic gouache and watercolor, learning how these complementary media can be used with traditional gouache.
The workshop will explore key aspects of drawing and painting, including light and shadow, color relationships, composition, and structure. Through demonstrations and hands-on exploration, participants will experiment with traditional techniques and experimental approaches. Emphasis will be placed on creating vibrant, rich color and developing an intuitive, personal approach to painting. &nbsp;
Working on location encourages close observation and responsiveness, allowing participants to capture the shifting qualities of light, atmosphere, and seasonal color while fostering a deeper connection to place.
Individual instruction and group discussions will help refine each artist’s approach while offering insight into a variety of creative processes and perspectives.
By the end of the workshop, participants will have a collection of paintings that reflect an expanded understanding of gouache, along with greater confidence to develop their own personal artistic voice.
A boxed lunch will be provided. Participants should bring their own materials. A schedule and list of required and optional materials will be emailed to participants following enrollment.
The workshop is suitable for a range of skill levels, from beginner to advanced. Applicants will be asked to submit a brief statement describing their background and what they hope to explore.

Ensemble Connect and Biribá Union invite audiences to the rehearsal room for a real-time look at artistic collaboration. During a residency at The Pocantico Center, made possible by The Rockefeller Foundation, Ensemble Connect fellows will collaborate with Biribá Union to explore a new musical style and develop a concept for their Ensemble Connect Up Close performance at Carnegie Hall in May 2027.
This performance offers a rare glimpse into the creative conversations, experimentation, and musical exchange that drive collaborative performance. Drawing on Brazilian, jazz, folk, and hip-hop musical traditions, Biribá Union’s genre-defying approach provides an inspiring creative partner for Ensemble Connect’s extraordinary young musicians.
Eleven Ensemble Connect fellows will be joined by Biribá Union’s cellist and vocalist Mike Block, beatboxer and guitarist Christylez Bacon, and electric bassist and vocalist Patricia Ligia. A discussion and audience Q&amp;A with the musicians of Ensemble Connect and Biribá Union will follow the performance.
This work-in-process showing will be presented during Ensemble Connect’s residency at The Pocantico Center and is part of a larger show being developed for <a href="https://www.carnegiehall.org/Calendar/2027/05/05/Ensemble-Connect-Up-Close-0730PM" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Carnegie Hall's Resnick Education Wing</a> on May 5.&nbsp;

<h3>About the Work</h3>
Analogue Sites is a series of steel sculptures by Spanish-American artist and preservationist Jorge Otero-Pailos, created in 2019 from fencing salvaged during the preservation of the U.S. Embassy in Oslo, designed by Finnish-American modernist master Eero Saarinen. Otero-Pailos transformed this material as a way of preserving its layered history and drawing attention to the U.S. Embassy Program—an unprecedented Cold War–era initiative by the State Department that made modernist architecture and the arts central to American diplomacy abroad. These sculptures raise awareness of these embassies at a time when they are being decommissioned and left with little to no preservation protection.
At the Jay Heritage Center, two works are placed symmetrically in the restored garden parterres, framing the central path. Their mirrored placement reflects themes of balance and reciprocity central to diplomacy and honors John Jay’s historic missions to Spain, France, and England, and his role as a founding figure in American diplomacy.
Sculptures from this series have been exhibited in New York on Park Avenue; in London at Regent’s Park and at Winfield House, the residence of the U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom; and in Washington, D.C., at the National Museum of American Design.

Otero-Pailos is an internationally recognized New York–based artist, architect, and preservationist known for his monumental casts of historical buildings. He has exhibited at prestigious venues such as the Venice Art Biennale and the British Parliament, and his works are held in major museum collections. Otero-Pailos also teaches and directs the Historic Preservation program at Columbia University GSAPP.

The Hastings Tai Chi Study Group invites you to its seasonal Open House

The Jay Heritage Center in Rye, New York will celebrate America at 250 with a toast to Jay Medal honorees Pulitzer Prize-winning author Annette Gordon-Reed, the Carl M. Loeb University Professor at Harvard University and award-winning Lincoln historian Harold Holzer.
The Jay Medal for Service was created in 2012 to recognize individuals who demonstrate a selfless spirit of commitment to and engagement with their community mirroring the multifaceted contributions of John Jay and his descendants. These honorees have demonstrated through their life's work that our shared narratives as a country, complicated as they are, can be better illuminated through the highest caliber of ongoing scholarship and advocacy. Honorees are selected for their excellence in the fields of American history, environmental stewardship, social justice or civic engagement.
Joining the celebration will be Chief Judge of the State of New York and the New York Court of Appeals, Honorable Rowan D. Wilson and historian and philanthropist Elihu Rose who will present the awards at JHC's annual Soirée. Special guests will include David Blight, Frank Cogliano, Joanne Freeman, and Beverly Gage.

The Jay Medal Soirée will be held Saturday, September 19, 2026 at the Jay Estate from 5:30-9:30pm. Cocktails, dinner, award ceremony and dancing. Cocktail Attire.
