Welcome to the Reid Park Zoo Expansion Advocacy group. This page is not affiliated with or supported by the Reid Park Zoo, the Reid Park Zoological Society, or the City of Tucson Parks and Recreation.

We’re a group of your fellow Tucsonans who love our Zoo and are reaching out about all the good work the Zoo does, and what a great place it is to visit. We’re writing about how you can go to the Zoo, why you will just love going there, and the most fun of all: the incredible animals who receive world-class care at the Reid Park Zoo. Every day, the Zoo provides the chance for their visitors to learn about more sustainable living – small things you can do to help mitigate climate change - so we also include some of that information. We hope that you’ll learn to care about the animals and want to help us protect them. And we are excited about the new expansion plans, because many more fascinating but endangered creatures will soon call Tucson home.

The Pathway to Asia expansion will not only make the Zoo a bit bigger and even more beautiful, it’s going to enable the them to carry out their most important mission - conservation of these amazing species and protection of the wild places where they live. Their native habitats and their numbers in the wild are shrinking precariously due to human encroachment, poaching, introduction of invasive species, the illegal wildlife trade, and most of all, climate change. But believe it or not, we can do our part here in Tucson to help turn these conditions around – we can be part of a greater good!

The Reid Park Zoo and all the other fully-accredited members of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums are working hard to ensure that animals, from the tiniest dart frog to the biggest African Elephant, live rich and healthy lives while in human care. That way, if enough people can see and love them, the animals stand a fighting chance of being around for our great-grandchildren, and for theirs.
