Our Mission

At Adam’s House we believe every child should never grieve alone. Each child deserves a supportive and understanding community to learn and explore their feelings of loss. All grief journeys are unique and grief is a natural reaction to a loss of a loved one. At Adam’s House we will be partner in support of your healing process.

Program Groups:

Adam’s House encourages the expression of the grief and positive play within a peer group setting. The groups are open to grieving children ages 3 to 18.

Explorers – Children (3-6 years of age) who have had a parent, sibling or other significant person die. They “explore” and share their feelings through play and art activities.

Middle School Group – Children (7 to 12 years of age) share feelings about the death of a loved one and feel supported by their peer group during their grief.

Teen Groups – 13-18 years old teens support each other as they share their experiences about the death of a parent, sibling, best friend or other significant person in their life.

Parent Groups – While each children’s group is meeting, their surviving parent(s) or caregivers will meet in a separate group with a trained facilitator. This is an opportunity to share the concerns and fears families and friends are facing at home, and to support one another.

Staff

Adam’s House is comprised of a small, core staff of professionals with advanced degrees in education, counseling and social work, as well as experience in bereavement counseling.

Volunteers

Volunteers are necessary in order for our program to run. Volunteers are trained to facilitate groups, make families feel at home, and generally support the work of the program. Volunteers donate an average of 7 hours a month to Adam’s House. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer in anyway, please call 203-241-6207, fill out an application form found here or email us at adamshousect@gmail.com.
