Millions of birds cross over Sandy Springs every night during this exciting time of year. As tracking devices get smaller and lighter, scientists are learning more than ever about this bird migration–and there have been some surprising discoveries! Join Master Birder Rose Guerra as we discuss these discoveries, bird migration in general, and pro tips for local folks who want to enjoy fall migrants–including the birds who stay in Sandy Springs for the winter, and the birds just passing through. All levels welcome! FREE! All are welcome. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Walk-ins are welcome but please register at the link so we know how many to expect. Wild Roots Native Nursery will be at Lost Corner with a wide selection of native plants for sun and shade. Plants native to our region are the best suited to thrive and have the added benefit of attracting butterflies, insects and other pollinators. They are beautiful too! A free, three-day outdoor arts festival on the historic Marietta Square featuring a juried market of 200 artists, live music, chalk art, a collaborative mural and family-friendly activities.Marietta Art in the Park celebrates its 40th year on the historic Marietta Square over Labor Day weekend, Saturday, September 5 through Monday, September 7, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Admission is free.
The festival features a juried Artist Market with 200 fine artists from across the country showcasing painting, photography, pottery, jewelry, sculpture, and more, plus a special 40th anniversary Artist Showcase. Visitors can also watch graffiti artist Rich Dennard create a collaborative mural on Saturday, join Chalk Spot street art on a closed downtown street (Saturday only, $10 to participate, benefiting the Marietta High School Visual Arts Program), and help the Marietta Arts Council build a textile American flag in honor of the nation's 250th anniversary.
Kids can enjoy Children's Art Alley all three days, and everyone can relax with live music at the square's gazebo, browse local shops and galleries, and grab a bite at the many restaurants surrounding the square.
Marietta Art in the Park is the only fine art festival in Cobb County and has earned recognition from Sunshine Artist Magazine and the Southeast Tourism Society, drawing around 55,000 visitors each year.
