Runners of all ages, get ready to taste victory (and confections) at Bishop Dunn Memorial School’s Eighth Annual Cupcake 5K Run/Walk on Sunday, September 20.
The event, featuring a race for adults and another for children 10 and under, will be held at Mount Saint Mary College, 330 Powell Ave., Newburgh, N.Y. Refreshments – including cupcakes – will be provided by local businesses. Proceeds from the event will be used for scholarships to the students of Bishop Dunn. 
Adult Race: Run or walk on a beautiful scenic route through the Mount campus, overlooking the Hudson Valley with river views. The race route starts on the track around the baseball field and continues through the campus. It loops around twice before coming to the finish line behind the Bishop Dunn Memorial School. 
The adult race starts at 9:30 a.m. The cost is $25 for 5K pre-registrants (plus online sign-up fees) and online pre-registration ends September 17, 2026. Same-day registration is $30 in cash or check made payable to Bishop Dunn Memorial School. The first 100 pre-registered 5K entrants will receive a t-shirt. 
Mini Cupcake Race: The Mini Cupcake Race is a quarter-mile fun run for children 10 and under. The race starts at 9 a.m. and takes place on the track around the baseball field. The cost is $10 for pre-registrants (plus online sign-up fees), and online registration closes on September 17, 2026. Please bring cash if registering the day of the event. Free event t-shirts will be given to the first 40 pre-registered fun run participants.

Mount Saint Mary College will honor two of the Hudson Valley’s most dynamic business and community leaders, Sims Foster and Kirsten Harlow Foster, co-founders of Foster Supply Hospitality, at the College’s 17th Annual Gala on Thursday, October 1, at West Hills Country Club in Middletown.
The Fosters will receive the Joseph A. Bonura Award for Leadership Excellence, one of the College’s highest honors for leadership and commitment to community.
This year’s honor comes at an especially exciting moment for the Fosters and the City of Newburgh. Foster Supply Hospitality is making a historic $45.9 million investment in downtown Newburgh, transforming three historic buildings on Grand Street into a 74-room boutique hotel, restaurants, retail, and gathering spaces. The project will bring the first new upscale hotel to downtown Newburgh in 133 years.
For Mount Saint Mary College, a longstanding anchor institution in Newburgh, the Fosters’ investment and belief in the city’s future make this year’s honor particularly meaningful.
“We are thrilled to honor Sims and Kirsten at such an exciting moment for Newburgh,” said Dr. Robert Gervasi, president of Mount Saint Mary College. “They see the tremendous potential of this city and are investing boldly in its future. Their commitment to building strong businesses and strong communities reflects values that are deeply shared by the Mount.”
The Gala is one of Mount Saint Mary College’s signature fundraising events, bringing together business, civic, and community leaders from throughout the Hudson Valley for an evening of celebration in support of Mount students.
Beginning at 6 p.m., guests will enjoy a cocktail reception, dinner, dessert, and a live auction featuring exceptional experiences and packages.
Proceeds from the Gala directly benefit the Mount Saint Mary College Donor Scholarship Fund, helping provide the financial support that makes a transformative Mount education possible for deserving students.
Tickets are $300 per person. Businesses and organizations can also participate through sponsorship opportunities that provide meaningful visibility while demonstrating their support for Mount students and the College’s mission.

About the Honorees
Sims and Kirsten Foster are the co-founders of Foster Supply Hospitality, a collection of hotels and restaurants rooted in the Sullivan Catskills and built around a commitment to hospitality, local partnerships, and community.
A native of Livingston Manor whose family roots in the Catskills span more than a century, Sims began working in hospitality as a dishwasher at age 13 and went on to hold senior leadership positions with hospitality groups across the country. Over his career, he has opened more than 40 restaurants, bars, and hotels before bringing that experience home through Foster Supply Hospitality.
Before co-founding Foster Supply Hospitality with Sims in 2014, Kirsten spent a decade as a Senior Policy Advisor at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Her background in international policy and economic development included designing rural micro-lending programs and advising foreign officials and the U.S. Treasury Department. Today, she leads design, purchasing, marketing, revenue, and sales initiatives for Foster Supply Hospitality.
Together, Sims and Kirsten also co-founded A Single Bite, a nonprofit dedicated to addressing food insecurity and educating young people about real, local food. Their commitment to hospitality, community investment, and the future of the Hudson Valley makes them fitting recipients of this year’s Joseph A. Bonura Award for Leadership Excellence.

Greatness Code: The Formula Behind Unstoppable Success

Mount Saint Mary College, in partnership with the Orange County Chamber of Commerce, invites the Hudson Valley community to attend a Congressional Candidate Forum with incumbent U.S. Representative Pat Ryan and Republican challenger Jackie Auringer on Thursday, October 22, 2026.&nbsp;
The forum will run from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on the Mount Saint Mary College campus, located at 330 Powell Avenue, Newburgh, N.Y. Admission is free, but attendees are encouraged to reserve their seats in advance at the <a href="https://members.orangeny.com/chamber-calendar/Details/congressional-candidate-forum-1871804" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Orange County Chamber website</a>.
The event will bring together Ryan and Auringer as they discuss key regional, state, and national issues shaping the upcoming election. Jay Heritage Center

The Jay Heritage Center (JHC) is proud to welcome educators and the general public to our site during September 2026, Constitution Month, to commemorate our nation’s journey towards independence and democracy. The free program is co-sponsored by the Mid-Hudson Social Studies Council. The event will be the first of many lively conversation about America at 250 with some of our country’s leading history scholars. It is open to teachers throughout the Mid Hudson and Sound Shore communities as well as Fairfield County.
Professors David Blight, Frank Cogliano, Joanne Freeman and Beverly Gage will take the stage at the new Wachenheim Center to examine the history of the nation-state and the contested nature of American national identity. The panel will discuss what the United States and the Constitution have meant to citizens over time and how that vision has changed or stayed constant. &nbsp;The event is FREE but registration is required.
