Broken Pencil Project, Neighbor
- Summit, NJ
After teaching at Lawton C. Johnson Summit Middle School and tutoring for nine years, I began The Broken Pencil Project, a tutoring center located in downtown Summit. The company’s name is an ode to the frustration I personally felt as a student struggling to succeed in school and the many pencils that met their demise as a result of my displaced anger. I strongly believe that learning should be a challenge, at points even a struggle; however, the mission of The Broken Pencil Project is to utilize school-related stress as a motivator rather than as a barrier
Currently, I hold two master’s degrees, the first in elementary education and a second in educational philosophy. I also lead the school’s TEDx club, a program designed to enrich student learning beyond the confines of a classroom. My passion for learning is matched only by my desire to inspire the same love of knowledge within my students. I am looking forward to the challenge of doing so this summer through my reading and writing workshops.
Thank you for your interest.
