Let's stomp, sway, and spin the night away!Jessie Redmon Fauset sculpted African American literature in the 1920's supporting the careers of Harlem Renaissance luminaries Langston Hughes, Jean Toomer, Countee Cullen, Nella Larson and Claude McKay among others. In a biographical note the ardent Francophile Fauset shared, "Like the French, I adore dancing." Actually, it turns out that W. E. B. DuBois danced. Countee Cullen danced. Dorothy West danced and more. In honor of the many Harlem Renaissance writers and artists who danced at The Savoy Ballroom (1926-1958) and other places, this event is held in their memory. Calling all sapphics, trans people, and anyone who loves drag, burlesque, or a fun night out! THE D WORD is Henrietta Hudson’s monthly drag and burlesque revue featuring an all-trans, dyke, and/or sapphic cast. We’re celebrating all things queer here, and all are welcome!&nbsp;
Attendees can expect to see high-energy dance numbers, show-stopping ballads, comedy, and everything in between — complete with games (with prizes) and (of course!) delicious drinks (with non-alcoholic options available)!
THE D WORD is hosted by Pacha and features the gorgeous and talented Julius Nicoy, Mariquita, Reina NoBuena, and Se7en.
Shows start at 9:30pm, but feel free to come earlier — the bar opens at 6pm and our official “door time” is 9pm. So come early, settle in, and stay late! And best of all — there’s no cover! On the tour, you'll join the guides on an adventure to understand the behaviors, biology, ecology, and history of our closest bird neighbors.

MADC is elated to be premiering current company artist Ellicia Clayton’s new work, Come Sunday; the reimagining of the deconstructed repertory work, Thoughts; an audience favorite, Sweet Seventies’ Suite; and the premiere of Legacy. Ellicia Clayton’s Come Sunday investigates the following questions in her 5 section work: Have you ever questioned Salvation? Is it ever too late to be saved? Thoughts examines how we see ourselves, what ways that we show up for ourselves, and practices that cultivate self-love. Sweet Seventies' Suite explores grief, loss, and joy towards a loved one who transitioned to the spiritual realm. Legacy is rooted in joy as a form of resistance. It fosters pride and a positive sense of self by highlighting the valuable aspects of Black people from the First Great Migration, the first Harlem Renaissance, and the second Harlem Renaissance.
