Celebrating Jazz Appreciation Month, the Jazz Club of Sarasota and the Central Florida musicians union, proudly present a Celebration of Jazz Masters—a series of four one-hour concerts honoring some of the most influential musicians in the history of jazz. Top Central Florida musicians will present afternoon or evening performances at the Selby Library Auditorium in downtown Sarasota. Each concert will be both informative and entertaining, offering audiences a deeper look into the artistry and legacy of these jazz icons. On April 30, David Pate and Friends present the music of Sam Rivers. All events are free and open to the public. Join us for live jazz at Sarasota Art Museum, hosted by the Jazz Club of Sarasota, and extended hours in the galleries, Bistro, and SHOP! Sip on refreshing cocktails and enjoy small bites in the Bistro. Each second Thursday of the month features a different style of jazz–from straight-ahead to free jazz, bebop to swing–programmed in partnership with Jazz Club of Sarasota. On May 14, Jazz Thursday features vocalist Barbara King and the Spirit of Jazz. John C. Court Cabaret

Night Jazz at the Court Cabaret presents La Lucha, a Tampa Bay based trio that features bassist Alejandro Arenas, pianist John O’Leary and drummer Mark Feinman. Winners of Creative Loafing’s best jazz ensemble Monday six times, La Lucha, in addition to being featured at local area festivals, has performed at international festivals in Spain and Italy. They recently recorded their eighth CD. La Lucha’s CD Everybody Wants To Rule The World (Arbors Records), was produced by world renowned clarinetist, Ken Peplowski, featuring guest musicians; Houston Person, Chuck Redd, Ken Peplowski, Melissa Aldana and Diego Figueiredo. Doors open at 6:30 for food and beverage service. Tickets $34 - $39. Tickets not yet on sale.

The Pops Orchestra is combining with the majestic sounds of the Elizabeth M. Eaton Memorial Pipe Organ in a one-of-a-kind showcase that truly pulls out all the stops. The Elizabeth M. Eaton Memorial Pipe Organ, installed in the SCF Neel Performing Arts Center, will be on full display for this special performance of orchestra and organ music. Featuring local acclaimed organists Ann Stephenson-Moe, Glenn Priest, and Jason Branham, as well as the student winners of the Sarasota Music Conservatory Concerto Competition performing their winning pieces on violin, this concert will delight all, leaving you breathless and amazed.
