The Jay Heritage Center (JHC) is a dynamic nonprofit which manages the Jay Estate in Rye, New York. The 23-acre park that they have preserved and interpreted since 1992 is an award-winning culture hub and wildlife refuge on Long Island Sound. Located in the heart of Westchester’s only National Historic Landmark District, the site welcomes visitors April through November to learn about our nation’s flawed yet precious democracy through indoor and outdoor public programs. Offerings about American History feature prominent writers and educators. Free horticulture and birding workshops teach guests about native plants and wildlife. Close out Breast Cancer Awareness Month with an afternoon of conversation, tea, and writing. Narrative Medicine at Sarah Lawrence College welcomes journalist and author Lizzie Stark for an author talk and writing workshop.
We'll start with a conversation about Pandora's DNA, Lizzie's book tracing the breast cancer genes through history, science, and her own family tree after she learned she carries a BRCA1 mutation. We'll also talk about Egg: A Dozen Ovatures, her essays on the surprising relationships between humans and eggs, and her TEDx talk on the patient experience. After afternoon tea and a book signing, Lizzie will guide us through a writing prompt of our own.

Come From Away is based on the true story of September 11, 2001 when 38 planes, carrying thousands of people from around the globe, were diverted to the isolated community of Gander, Newfoundland.Undaunted by culture clashes and language barriers, the people of Gander cheered the stranded travelers with music, an open bar and the recognition that we’re all part of a global family.Come From Away is a critically acclaimed musical featuring a culturally relevant script accompanied by a deeply moving score by Irene Sankoff and David Hein.

Actors Conservatory Theatre (ACT) is a non-profit Westchester-based theatre company, voted Best of Westchester in 2018, 2019 and 2020. Founded in 1975, ACT is one of the oldest community theatre organizations in Westchester. ACT has presented over 140 mainstage productions, including classic and lesser-known musicals, comedies, and dramas. Each year, ACT’s Junior Troupe provides students in grades 5 through 12 the opportunity to perform in a musical production.
