Any adult who has helped a learner—formally or informally—has access to two useful voices: a “Teacher Voice” that provides instruction, information, and sometimes step-by-step directions, and an “Executive Function Coach Voice” that invites thinking, problem-solving, and&nbsp;ownership.
Both are important. The key is knowing which voice the learner needs in the moment — when to step in with direction and when to step back and make room for&nbsp;thinking.

Join us for Shelton Day 2026 on Sunday, October 4th from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM at Veterans Memorial Park in Shelton!
Bring the entire family for a fun-filled day with something for everyone! Kids can enjoy pony rides, train rides, and a 3-Hour Large Group Bubble Show from 12:00–3:00 PM, along with many more fun activities throughout the day.
Come hungry and enjoy delicious food from a wide variety of food trucks, then stroll through the park and visit our many local vendors. After shopping, stop by the Drink Tent, grab a refreshing beverage, sit back and enjoy some great live music!
Live Entertainment: Lee-Ann Lovelace Band – 12:30 PM&nbsp; &nbsp;&amp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Eight to the Bar – 3:00 PM
Don't miss the Derby-Shelton Rotary Restaurant Raffle, supporting restaurants throughout Derby and Shelton! Ten prizes will be awarded, totaling $2,000 in restaurant gift cards. Join Literacy Volunteers of Greater Waterbury for Designer Purse Bingo on Friday, October 16, at Hawk Ridge Winery in Watertown! Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Bring your favorite snacks, sip some wine, and enjoy an exciting evening of bingo, designer handbag prizes, raffles, and fun—all while supporting adult literacy in Greater Waterbury.
Tickets are $55 and include 10 rounds of bingo and one complimentary drink ticket.
