Shelly Genis, Neighbor

I've been a resident of "The Square" for 9 years with my husband Dave, son Jack (7 years), daughter Maddie (5 years) and Hammy our hamster (2 years).

Three years ago the company I worked for closed it's doors and I was forced to reassess what I want to be when I grow up. I went back to school to study Recreation Therapy and I am now a Life Enrichment Facilitator/Volunteer Coordinator at a Continuing Care Retirement Community in Chicago. What a difference a few years can make. My life is full of what I like to call "forced opportunity".

On a more personal note: I make a mean krispy treat cake and can make a cupcake look like almost anything. I have a few rules that I live by....never wear a bathing suit unless I'm out of the state of Illinois and I believe everyone should have a theme song that relates to their life. Mine....Dancing Queen by ABBA. But nothing defines me more than being a mom of 2 awesome kids that keep me active, creative, strong, and sometimes a bit crazy.

I'm going to be sharing Cub Scout Pack 237 adventures as they earn patches, belt loops and pins. You'll see how our boys do their best to help others and watch as we prepare them for life.
