The Studio Around The Corner

Second Saturday drum circles continue in the Studio Around the Corner. Drum circles are rooted in a long tradition of communal music-making that fosters unity, expression,
and belonging. Guided by Joshua 2, this inclusive, all-levels experience invites participants to set
intentions, connect through rhythm, and experience the grounding and uplifting power of collective
sound.

Joshua 2 is a multidisciplinary artist, musician, and shamanic energy healer whose work spans visual art,
performance, music, community arts, and teaching. A lifelong creative, his artistic path has included theater,
fine art, fashion illustration, blues and gospel-influenced music, and community-based arts projects focused on
healing, inclusion, and social connection. A recent visit to his ancestral homeland of Nigeria renewed his
commitment to drumming as a powerful practice for building community and shared meaning.

All are welcome—no prior drumming experience required. Drums will be provided, or participants may bring their own. A
$10 donation is suggested.

This immersive event explores racial justice and moral responsibility through performances from the play “Not Disposable”. A multi-disciplinary production that uses spoken word, visual art, media and more. The event concludes in a panel discussion as well as a community dialogue examining art as activism and how creative expression can inspire understanding, conversation and collective action for social change.
On the walls on the Studio will be Steve Parlato's hard-hitting touring art show "They Are Not Disposable," a collection of collage portraits of slain victims of racial violence made with garbage and found objects.
Admission: $15 suggested donation

Writers Round provides&nbsp;an affordable, community-based space where writers can test ideas, receive constructive feedback, and build meaningful artistic connections.&nbsp;​This is a forum&nbsp;created by writers, for writers—a welcoming, supportive environment to explore, test, and refine your work. Whether you’re just beginning your writing journey or you’re a seasoned storyteller, this space is built on the belief that we all have something to learn from one another.

The Jay Heritage Center in Rye, New York will celebrate America at 250 with a toast to Jay Medal honorees Pulitzer Prize-winning author Annette Gordon-Reed, the Carl M. Loeb University Professor at Harvard University and award-winning Lincoln historian Harold Holzer.
The Jay Medal for Service was created in 2012 to recognize individuals who demonstrate a selfless spirit of commitment to and engagement with their community mirroring the multifaceted contributions of John Jay and his descendants. These honorees have demonstrated through their life's work that our shared narratives as a country, complicated as they are, can be better illuminated through the highest caliber of ongoing scholarship and advocacy. Honorees are selected for their excellence in the fields of American history, environmental stewardship, social justice or civic engagement.
Joining the celebration will be Chief Judge of the State of New York and the New York Court of Appeals, Honorable Rowan D. Wilson and historian and philanthropist Elihu Rose who will present the awards at JHC's annual Soirée. Special guests will include David Blight, Frank Cogliano, Joanne Freeman, and Beverly Gage.

The Jay Medal Soirée will be held Saturday, September 19, 2026 at the Jay Estate from 5:30-9:30pm. Cocktails, dinner, award ceremony and dancing. Cocktail Attire.
