The opening reception marks the first activation of Silton’s installation In everything there is the trace (2013) since its debut at USC Fisher Museum of Art, and the beginning of a public typing program that will run for the length of the exhibition. The installation centers on a circular table built from ten interlocking desks, each structurally dependent on its neighbor. Ten participants at a time sit at ten manual typewriters and in this iteration will retype Octavia Butler’s Parable of the Sower. They will type without ink, in what is called stencil mode, so the only record is the imprint of the keys striking the page.&nbsp;

The evening begins with refreshments on the balcony at 6:00 p.m., followed by a typing performance at 7:00 p.m. featuring writers, artists, and participants from Silton’s past works. The Crowing Hens, the all-female whistling group Silton founded in 2009, whose members include Erin Barnes, Jessica Basta, Carole Anne Kaufman, Laura Loftsgaarden, and Kathryn Nockels, will perform among the crowd.

Postcode Ukraine: Diary of a Volunteer is a fundraising exhibition of photographs by British, Kyiv-based artist Mark Neville. The exhibition is presented in collaboration with The Wende Museum at Westwood Contemporary, The Wende Museum's pop-up exhibition space, September 10–30, marking the first major presentation of British, Kyiv-based artist Mark Neville’s Ukraine photography work in the city.
Guest curators are Kateryna Babkina, Sir Stephen Fry, Beth Greenacre, Justin Jampol, Max Klymenko, Andrey Kurkov, Oleksandra Matviichuk, Alyssa Milano, Kathy Nalywajko, Lara Salmon, Sharon Stone, and Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex. Each has selected a photograph and shared a personal reflection. All proceeds support Postcode Ukraine’s direct aid to grassroots volunteer networks in Ukraine.

First United Methodist Church of Glendale

On Friday, September 11, 2026, Pasadena-based choral ensemble voices/LA invites members of the Glendale, Pasadena, and greater Los Angeles communities to gather for Silence into Song: 2,977 Voices Remembered. This free evening of remembrance and reflection marks the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks with a live performance of Mozart’s Requiem. Presented in partnership with Glendale First United Methodist Church (GFUMC), the concert aligns with GFUMC’s mission to serve Los Angeles as a sanctuary of radical welcome, healing mind, body, and spirit across diverse communities.
The concert is free and open to the public. This tribute is made possible through generous underwriting from donors and patrons from our community. Voluntary contributions will benefit the Widows, Orphans &amp; Disabled Firefighter's Fund (<a href="https://www.wodff.org/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">www.wodff.org</a>), providing vital assistance to the families of first responders.
The concert will begin at 8:00 p.m. on September 11 at 134 N. Kenwood Street in Glendale, offering community members a space for remembrance, reflection, and connection through music. Performed with full orchestra and four guest soloists, the program honors the 2,977 lives lost with Mozart's masterpiece alongside select works dedicated to memory, solidarity, and hope. This performance carries forward a global tradition born on the first anniversary of 9/11, when musicians worldwide staged a rolling performance of Mozart’s Requiem across time zones. Twenty-four years later, voices/LA renews that international legacy of healing through choral music.
"Music provides a vocabulary for grief and hope when words fall short," says Dr. John Sutton, Artistic Director of voices/LA. "Gathering on this 25th anniversary allows us to transform shared silence into a collective song of remembrance and community resilience."
