<p>Learn how to work with Sculpey (a polymer-based clay) to make whimsical yet realistic miniature figurines. Each participant will produce one figurine to take home from the class. The 3-hour session will feature an introduction to Sculpey, a demonstration and explanation of how to use the medium and the tools, and a guided sculpting session.</p>

<p><b>About the Instructor, Martin Hindel</b></p>
<p>Marty Hindel has been sculpting since the age of eight. Without any formal training, he naturally gravitated toward sculpture which combines two of his great loves – artistic expression and working with his hands. Marty has a keen sense of humor and loves producing miniature figurines that are cheerful or whimsical in nature. His works have been featured and sold in galleries throughout the DC metro area and have won several awards in the annual Montgomery County and Maryland State Fairs. Marty is an active member of the Washington Sculptor’s Group. <p><b>“Kinship,” an all-media exhibit honoring the bonds that exist between or among communities, families, cultures, and affinity groups, will be on display through<u>&nbsp;January 4, 2026</u> at Falls Church Arts. </b></p><p><i><b>See the Juror's Choice Award, "Boy King" by Robin Lazarus-Berlin and the People's Choice Award Winner, "The Caregiver's Weaving," by Jose Quinonez.</b></i></p><p>Juror, Glen Kessler, says,&nbsp;</p><p><i>“The current show at Falls Church Arts, entitled ‘Kinship,’ explores the many ways artists interpret the idea of connection—between individuals, between cultures, and even within themselves. This thought-provoking exhibition of more than 50 works in a range of media feels especially meaningful at a time when both our similarities and differences are so often in focus. As juror, I am deeply proud of the artists represented here. The quality of craftsmanship and richness of ideas make this an unforgettable show for all who experience it.”</i></p><p>The Falls Church Arts gallery is at 700-B West Broad St. (Route 7), Falls Church. Admission is free, and the gallery is open with new winter hours: Tuesdays-Fridays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Masks are optional, and guests are asked to postpone their visit if they are not well.</p>
