Award-winning author David O. Stewart discusses his latest book&nbsp;The Democracy We Must Keep: Seven Founders, Nine Documents, and the Ideas That Shaped America. In this book, Stewart examines the impact of seven Founding Fathers as they shaped the United States and explores the lasting importance of nine documents that were instrumental in forming our new democratic government and their relevance today.
For Adults.&nbsp;Registration is encouraged to receive a reminder email and updates if needed. Walk-in attendees are also welcome.

James Lee Community Center

The Fairfax County 250th Commission is sponsoring a free screening of the movie ”1776”— a classical tale of the struggle to pass the Declaration of Independence — at the James Lee Community Center in Falls Church September 18 at 7 p.m.
Come enjoy this musical retelling of the American Revolution's political struggle in the Continental Congress to declare independence. In the days leading up to July 4, 1776, Continental Congressmen John Adams and Benjamin Franklin coerce Thomas Jefferson into writing the Declaration of Independence as a delaying tactic as they try to persuade the American colonies to support a resolution on independence. As George Washington sends depressing messages describing one military disaster after another, the businessmen, landowners and slave holders in Congress all stand in the way of the Declaration, and a single "nay" vote will forever end the question of independence. Large portions of spoken and sung dialog are taken directly from the letters and memoirs of the actual participants.
The James Lee Community Center is located at 2855 Annandale Rd., Falls Church, VA 22042. The show begins at 7 p.m. No tickets required. Doors open 6: 30. First come. First seated.
