Christian Science Reading Room

Healing in Christian Science is joyful— it’s the natural result of understanding God as divine Life and Love.

In this inspirational talk, speaker Ann Kneeland shares real-life examples of spiritual healing. Her examples show how fear, illness, and polarization dissolve as we discover God’s pure and spiritual creation. This discovery brings joy, healing, and freedom for everyone.

Ann Kneeland, CS is a practitioner of Christian Science healing from San Rafael. She travels internationally to speak to audiences as a member of the Christian Science Board of Lectureship.

The talk will be offered twice: Friday, October 16 at 7pm and Saturday, October 17 at 10am at the Christian Science Reading Room in Palo Alto (459 California Avenue) and streamed live: https://www.cspaloalto.org/event-details/healing-with-joy-discovering-the-power-of-love-2026-10-16-19-00-1

Meyhouse & Meyhouse Jazz Club

“Joni Mitchell tinged with a jazzy sass.” — JazzTimes

Acclaimed vocalist Jenna Mammina celebrates the music of Joni Mitchell and James Taylor, two artists who have shaped her musical voice since her early years. Moving effortlessly between jazz, folk, pop, and Americana, Mammina brings fresh phrasing, improvisation, and a deeply personal storytelling sensibility to two of the most beloved songbooks of the singer-songwriter era.

Praised by the Los Angeles Times as an artist who “deserves to be more widely heard,” Mammina is known for transforming familiar songs while preserving the spirit that made them enduring. Her connection to this repertoire runs deep: both Mitchell and Taylor were formative influences, and James Taylor’s music has appeared throughout her recorded work.

Mammina has been recognized by Jazziz Magazine as one of the leading women of jazz/pop crossover for three consecutive years and was named Jazz Performer of the Year by SF Weekly. Throughout her career, she has performed with artists including Bobby McFerrin, Al Jarreau, David Sanborn, Rickie Lee Jones, and Rosemary Clooney.

For this special program at Meyhouse Jazz, Mammina revisits the lyrical storytelling, unforgettable melodies, and emotional depth of Joni Mitchell and James Taylor, offering her own jazz-inflected perspective on songs that have resonated across generations.

College of San Mateo Theatre

Viva La Vida with Excerpts from P1N0CCH10 & Carmilla features new works and a returning Oceánica Ballet autumn tradition. Act 1 premieres selections from two upcoming story ballets. P1N0CCH10, a retelling of Carlo Collodi's classic tale of Pinocchio, explores humanity, artificial intelligence, and our relationship with the natural world. Carmilla, an adaptation of Sheridan Le Fanu's groundbreaking sapphic vampire novella, stages a mysterious masquerade ball.
Act II features the return of Viva La Vida, the original story of Lucio and Lupita in a joyful folklórico-infused tale about transcending loss and the resilience of love, inspired by Día de los Muertos. In this “celebration of life, loved ones and culture,” writes Jocelyn Tong of the Daily Californian, “mythic creatures from the land of the dead … [lead to] twirled scarves and snapped-open fans …in a story of homecoming.” Throughout all three stories, the wisdom of women across time and cultures is amplified.
The San Mateo County Community College District in California, responsible for the College of San Mateo Theatre, is committed to ensuring an inclusive and equitable environment for all, where programs and services are accessible to everyone, regardless of ability.
