One of Reno's favorite summer traditions is back—and bigger than ever!
The 5th Annual Dog Days of Summer Dance Festival returns to the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts August 14–16 for three unforgettable evenings celebrating the performing arts, homeless pets, and the incredible northern Nevada community.
Produced by the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts, this FREE outdoor festival features a different lineup of spectacular local dance performances each night, delicious food trucks, local vendors, SPCA of Northern Nevada booths, the crowd-favorite Pup Parade featuring SPCA-NN alumni, and adoptable pets looking for loving homes.
More than just a dance festival, Dog Days of Summer brings our community together in support of two local nonprofits dedicated to enriching lives through the arts and animal welfare. Guests are invited to enjoy an incredible weekend of entertainment while raising awareness and support for SPCA of Northern Nevada's lifesaving work for pets and the people who love them.
August 14–16, 2026 E.L. Cord Plaza | Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts Plaza, vendors &amp; food trucks: 5:30 p.m. Performances: 7:30–9:30 p.m.
Guests are encouraged to arrive early, bring a blanket or low-back lawn chair, and make a night of it. Admission is free, and donations supporting SPCA-NN will be accepted throughout the weekend.

Storytime just got a whole lot cuter... Reading With Rescues is BACK! Join the staff and adoptable dogs at SPCA of Northern Nevada on August 27 for this special community program.
This unique experience gives participants of all ages a behind-the-scenes look at our Adoption Center, followed by a private one-on-one reading session with our dogs, who soak up every word like it’s their favorite bedtime story. ❤️ 
It’s a simple moment that makes a big impact — helping dogs relax, build confidence, and feel safe while they wait for a home of their own. Whether you’re working your way through your next book, a younger reader looking to build confidence, or simply just looking for an hour to unwind, Reading With Rescues may be exactly what you need!

 Meadows offers one of the basin’s most abundant displays of medicinal 
plants and berries, such as elderberry and thimbleberry.
Join
 Dr. Elena Roemer, L.Ac and Brian Wallace, Certified California 
Naturalist, as we explore the edible and medicinal plants of the Lake 
Tahoe basin through both Western herbal actions and Chinese medicine 
energetics, while weaving in local ecology, plant folklore, and seasonal
 rhythms. We’ll focus on learning how to truly see and relate to 
plants—how to identify them, understand their properties, and approach 
harvesting with respect and restraint. The walk includes a guided plant 
sit and discussion of ethical wildcrafting, as well as gaining a clear 
understanding of when to harvest, while inviting a grounded, embodied 
relationship with the living landscape.
Alpine Meadows offers one 
of the basin’s most abundant displays of medicinal and edible plant 
life, with beloved species such as elder, arnica, and thimbleberry 
thriving among open meadows and mountain slopes.
Led by <a href="https://www.brianwallace.com" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Brian Wallace</a>, California Naturalist and field guide, and <a href="https://wildrosemedicine.com/about-dr-elena/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Dr. Elena</a>, Doctor of Acupuncture and Herbalist. Hosted by <a href="https://wildrosemedicine.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Wild Rose Medicine</a>, a nonprofit community clinic in Tahoe City.
