Machimoodus State Park

The Friends of Machimoodus and Sunrise State Parks are thrilled to sponsor the debut of Superhero Training Corps’ Power Up at the Park program on Saturday October 3 at Machimoodus State Park in East Haddam, CT.
This is a free, family friendly outdoor adventure day designed to bring families, children, volunteers, and the local community together for a hands-on day of environmental awareness and outdoor learning. The event will include a park cleanup, nature photo-based scavenger hunt, obstacle course, target accuracy game, and partner-led learning activities focused on sustainability, stewardship and service to the world around us. Participants will be asked to register on-site.
Superhero Training Corps is built around one simple belief: there is a superhero within all of us and superheroes take care of the things around them.
The Friends of Machimoodus and Sunrise State Parks, founded in 2016, is celebrating their 10th year of protecting, preserving and helping to care of these local natural treasures.
Power Up at the Park gives children and families a chance to put these ideals into action by caring for a shared public space while learning, playing, and working together.
Through super hero themed activities, participants will learn about litter reduction, habitat protection, trail maintenance, waste sorting, watersheds, wildlife, and community service.
Why This Matters:
Kids Learn to Protect What They Love
Machimoodus and Sunrise State Parks are beautiful public spaces where families can hike, explore, learn, play and connect with nature.
But public spaces need public care.
This event is more than just a one-day experience. It is a way to help children and families connect outdoor recreation with lasting environmental responsibility and conservation and reinforces the importance of civic engagement.
Power Up at the Park is designed to make ecological stewardship feel accessible, exciting and meaningful for children and families. Instead of simply telling kids to care about the environment, we are giving them a mission: clean up the park, observe nature, complete the scavenger hunt, learn from local partners, and make a stewardship pledge.
Children will not just attend an event as spectators.
They will be active participants with an important mission.
As Park Protectors, they will become Superheroes!

What does UNITY mean to you?
On Saturday, October 3, 2026, Angelface Records — founded by Clinton residents Joe and Angelica McCarthy — invites the Connecticut community to gather for the first live experience of ONE: For Harmony, For Humanity — a multidisciplinary contemporary jazz album, live performance, and community project by the Latin Grammy®-winning, Grammy®-nominated New York Afro Bop Alliance Big Band. This is an invitation to belong to something — not just to witness it.
The evening begins at 5:00 PM with The ONE Gathering — a community commons featuring UNITY stations, Arts for All Ages, and a shared Community Mural, where families create together and answer the question "What does UNITY mean to you?" Every person who walks in is invited to contribute their voice, their creativity, and their art to the project itself.
At 7:00 PM, The ONE Concert opens with community performances by The Morgan School Jazz Band, the Shoreline Theater Academy Kidz Konnection, Poet Laureate of Clinton Bethany Howard, and Guitarist/Singer/Songwriter Michael J. Fox, among other special guests. The New York Afro Bop Alliance Big Band closes the evening with a live preview of ONE: For Harmony, For Humanity — a musical journey toward unity through five original compositions woven together with spoken word and community voices. What is experienced in the room does not end there. The questions, practices, and relationships travel home with you, extending the purpose of ONE beyond the stage. The album records in November 2026 and releases in early 2027.
The Concert is Free and Open to All - General seating. Reserved and accessible seating available. RSVP at handstamp.com/e/one-community-concert
