<p>As a musical prelude to our country 250<sup>th</sup>
anniversary, we present a celebration of the people, stories, and songs that give voice to the American spirit and our unique and varied musical identity.</p>
<p>The program begins with the traditions of Indigenous peoples and continues through the hymns of early settlers and the spirituals born from slavery, music that reflects both struggle and hope. As America grew, immigrant cultures enriched its musical landscape, leading to songs of unity and resilience from the Civil War through World Wars I and II. The journey continues to Broadway, where American stories and aspirations came vividly to life on stage.</p>

<p>The concert concludes with Randall Thompson’s The Testament of Freedom, a powerful musical affirmation of liberty and the enduring ideals that continue to define America and remind us of music's ability to bring people together.</p>

<p><b>Festival Celebrating America’s 250th Anniversary</b><br>National Archives Building<br>Constitution Avenue | Washington, DC<br>June 4-6, 2026<br><br>You're invited to the <em><b><a href="https://archivesfoundation.org/spirit-of-independence-festival/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Spirit of Independence Festival</a></b></em>, a three-day immersive celebration of American history, culture, and community at the National Archives—the home of the original Declaration of Independence—in the heart of Washington, DC.&nbsp;<br><br>Hosted beneath a tent spanning two city blocks in front of the National Archives, the <i>Spirit of Independence Festival</i> will include free daytime events for families and three evening benefit events to support the National Archives Foundation and its effort to engage the American public with the nation’s history.&nbsp;<br><br>From free daytime programming like a patriotic pet “yappy hour” to ticketed nighttime events like a culinary “taste of America,” there’s something for everyone to enjoy throughout the multi-day festival.<br><br>Guests can <a href="https://www.etix.com/ticket/v/39180/national-archives-museum-spirit-of-independence-festival" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">reserve free tickets</a> to daytime programming and purchase individual tickets to select evening programs. <i>Guests who reserve tickets online will receive complimentary access to the National Archives Museum.</i></p>

June 4-6: Celebrate America's 250th Birthday at the Spirit of Independence Festival!

<p><b>Nathan’s Cancer Slayers</b>, a local Arlington fundraising team under Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, invites the community to <strong>Cocktails for a Cause — An Amalfi Coast Evening</strong> on <strong>Sunday, June 14</strong> in Georgetown. ✨🍸</p>
<p>This inaugural silent auction will bring together friends, neighbors, and community supporters for cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and a fun silent auction — all raising funds for childhood cancer research in honor of <strong>Nathan Fleming</strong>, an Arlington student who passed away from rhabdomyosarcoma in 2019, just one week after turning 18.</p>
<p>Nathan was an Arlington student and alum of Jamestown Elementary, Swanson Middle School, and Washington-Liberty High School. His mom, Michele Fleming, formed Nathan’s Cancer Slayers under Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation in 2020, and the team has raised more than <strong>$775,000</strong> to advance childhood cancer research.</p>
<p>This year’s auction will support promising research led by <strong>Dr. Valter Longo at USC</strong> and <strong>Dr. JinSeok Park at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles</strong>, with the goal of moving this work toward clinical trials for children within the next 2-3 years.</p>
<p>Guests can <b>attend the event in person, browse and bid online from anywhere, or make a donation directly.</b> Auction items include luxury getaways, VIP experiences, local packages, handcrafted items, and more.</p>
<p>Every ticket, donation, and auction bid will be matched <strong>1:1 by Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation up to $30,000</strong>, doubling the impact of community support.&nbsp;💪</p>
