The Northeast Massachusetts Youth Orchestras presents An Afternoon of Spring Concerts on Sunday, May 17, at the Dolan Performing Arts Center, 130 High Street, in Ipswich, MA. The 2:00 pm concert features the NMYO Prelude String Ensemble, Overture String Ensemble, and Intermezzo Orchestra. The 4:00 pm concert features NMYO’s advanced ensembles: Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra. The concerts will include both classical and modern music including works by Holst, John Williams, Tchaikovsky, and more. The concerts will also be live-streamed on NMYO’s YouTube channel. NMYO concerts are a great way to experience orchestral music in a comfortable setting while supporting the musical training of the area’s finest young musicians. The Northeast Massachusetts Youth Orchestras (NMYO) is looking for young musicians to join its ensembles in the 2026-2027 Concert Season. Are you in search of a great place to play your instrument, perform in concert, and socialize with other young musicians who enjoy playing music as much as you? Then NMYO is the place for you!
Auditions for both new and returning NMYO musicians take place on Saturday, June 6 between 8:30 AM and 5:00 PM at Ipswich High School, 134 High Street, Ipswich, MA. But you can start preparing for your audition now! (Students who can’t make the June 6th date can still fill out the registration form and request an alternate date.)
String musicians, with at least one year of lessons, and woodwind, brass, and percussion students, who have played for at least two years and are taking private lessons, are invited to audition. The audition is used to determine proficiency on the student’s instrument and to assign ensemble placement.
NMYO offers five ensembles including two beginning string ensembles; two full orchestras; and a Wind Ensemble for intermediate and advanced winds, brass, and percussion. The Symphony Orchestra program also includes a small ensemble chamber music component to challenge the advanced players. NMYO ensembles perform two major concerts and several small concerts annually. Weekly rehearsals are held in Topsfield/Boxford conveniently located near Route 1 and just off Interstate 95.

NMYO’s Symphonic Summer Sessions includes a combination of small and large ensembles, jazz, pops, fiddling, traditional &amp; concert band, symphonic works, and lots more! Youth musicians, with at least two years of instrument study with a private teacher and the ability to read music, can register. No auditions are required! Held this year at Trinity Episcopal Church in Topsfield, musicians will play music both inside and under canopies on the wooded grounds.&nbsp;

All musicians - string, wind, brass, and percussion - meet from 9:00am to 12:00pm. String musicians who are at the end of Suzuki Book 1 or equivalent through Book 3 meet as a small string ensemble with fiddling workshops included. Advanced string players, at the Suzuki Book 4 level or higher, play in a small chamber music group and a larger string ensemble, with time for fiddling as well. Wind, brass and percussion musicians play in small groups as well as with a larger Wind Ensemble. Musicians should have at least two years’ experience playing at school or with a private instructor.

The Boys &amp; Girls Club of Greater Salem is hosting its annual event, Growing Great Futures, on May 14, 2026 at Danversport, 131 Elliott Street, Danvers from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. This casual, family friendly event invites participants to join the Club staff and kids in activities typically found at the afterschool sites. Enjoy delicious food and a cash bar. Play board games, try the putting green, sink an opponent in a corn hole game or make paper flower crafts. Join in the Guess Who is the Club Alumni game. Prizes and a fun time will be available along with a silent, live and cause auction.
The Boys &amp; Girls Club of Greater Salem is the second oldest Club in the United States, providing safe, caring out of school time options for the families of Salem and surrounding communities. MARBLEHEAD, MA — The Marblehead Garden Club, celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, invites the community to its Plant Sale on Saturday, May 16, from 8:30 to 11:00 a.m. at the historic Jeremiah Lee Mansion, 161 Washington Street, Marblehead. Admission to the event is free, and early arrival is encouraged for the best selection. Cards, cash, checks, and Venmo are accepted.&nbsp;
Set on the beautiful grounds of the Lee Mansion, the sale offers a wide variety of plants for every garden. Shoppers will find perennials for sun and shade, colorful annuals, a variety of dahlia tubers, native wildflowers, culinary plants including herbs, and selections for ground cover and rock gardens.&nbsp;
The Plant Sale is the Garden Club’s primary fundraiser, supporting the care and maintenance of the Lee Mansion’s organic gardens, which prioritize native and historically-appropriate plantings.&nbsp;
A highlight of the sale is a curated selection of plants featured in the Lee Mansion Gardens. These cherished favorites include trillium, Solomon’s seal, lady’s mantle, wild ginger, single or double white bloodroot, and mayapple. The MGC Plant Sale also features a strong selection of native New England plants that support local pollinators.&nbsp;

Built in 1768 for Colonel Jeremiah Lee, a prominent Marblehead patriot in the years leading up to the American Revolution, the site remains a treasured part of the community.
