WHAT: Wellpoint New Jersey will sponsor Latif Rivers Day, a free community celebration honoring the Elizabeth native, Harlem Globetrotter, children’s author, and youth literacy advocate Latif “Jet” Rivers.
Families can enjoy free food, free haircuts, amusement rides, a bouncy house, a live DJ, basketball games, and other activities throughout the day. The “Latif Rivers Day” Soccer Skills Challenge starts at 12:00 PM. Free haircuts will be available from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
Rivers, a graduate of Elizabeth High School, played college basketball at Wagner College before joining the Harlem Globetrotters in 2017. Now entering his tenth year with the organization, he has expanded his work beyond basketball to focus on youth education, literacy, and community engagement. He is the author of My Home and Where I’m From, a children’s book that encourages young people to celebrate their identity, community, and personal stories.
Rivers has previously partnered with Wellpoint New Jersey on literacy programming, including the company’s Read Across New Jersey initiative, where he has encouraged elementary school students to read, tell their own stories, and take pride in where they come from.
Wellpoint New Jersey’s support of Latif Rivers Day continues its broader commitment to supporting children and families through literacy, health, community engagement, and locally focused partnerships across New Jersey.

Meadowbrook Country Day Camp

<h3>Families Can Explore Summer 2027 at the September 26 Open House</h3>
Families thinking ahead to summer 2027 are invited to visit Meadowbrook Country Day Camp during an Open House on Saturday, September 26, from 12–4 p.m. at 73 East Valley Brook Road in Long Valley.
The Open House is by appointment only. Families can reserve a time by emailing <a href="https://null" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">mason@meadowbrookdaycamp.com</a>.
During their visit, prospective camp families will have an opportunity to meet members of Meadowbrook’s leadership team, learn about the camp’s programs and philosophy, and tour its expansive wooded campus.
“There’s no substitute for coming to Meadowbrook, walking the grounds and seeing what makes the camp so special,” said owner Mason Goldberg. “We want families to get a real feel for the community their children can become part of.”
<h2>More Than a Summer Schedule</h2>
Meadowbrook Country Day Camp is an American Camp Association-accredited day camp located on a 50-acre campus in Long Valley. The camp serves children ages 3–15 and offers programming designed to help campers build confidence, independence, friendships and lifelong memories.
At the heart of the Meadowbrook experience are three priorities: family, connection and safety.
Campers become part of a caring, supportive community where they can form meaningful friendships, try new things and develop greater confidence and independence. Meadowbrook also places a strong emphasis on creating an environment where every camper feels safe, supported and included.
The camp’s TIGER core values — Teamwork, Integrity, Generosity, Enthusiasm and Respect — are incorporated throughout the summer, encouraging campers and staff to carry those lessons with them both at camp and beyond.
<h2>A Summer Filled With Possibilities</h2>
No two days at Meadowbrook are exactly alike.
Campers can spend their summers swimming in heated pools, playing sports, boating, mountain biking, taking on ropes and challenge courses, creating art, cooking, dancing, exploring nature and participating in special events and themed activities.
The variety allows children to enjoy the activities they already love while also discovering new interests and challenging themselves in new ways.
Older campers can also participate in travel programs that combine time at Meadowbrook with off-site adventures and experiences.
And while the activities are a big part of camp, the friendships and memories children create along the way are often what stay with them the longest.
<h2>Convenience for Busy Families</h2>
Meadowbrook also offers features designed to make summer easier for parents.
The camp provides door-to-door bus transportation throughout many North Jersey communities, with routes serving areas throughout Morris, Essex, Union, Sussex, Warren, Hunterdon, Middlesex and Somerset counties.
Before-care and after-care are also available, and lunch is served daily.
Another feature appreciated by Meadowbrook families is that staff tips are included in tuition, eliminating an additional end-of-summer expense.
<h2>A Place Kids Want to Come Back To</h2>
For Goldberg, whose own children have attended Meadowbrook, creating a successful camp experience goes far beyond filling a child’s day with activities.
The goal is to give campers a place where they feel known, supported and excited to return each morning.
Over the course of a summer, children have opportunities to become more independent, build confidence, develop friendships and experience the traditions and moments that make camp memorable.
Those experiences can become part of a child’s story long after the summer ends.

 On November 15, the Steeple season continues with the Munich-based Arcis Saxophone Quartet, one of the world’s most vibrant and active classical ensembles.&nbsp; On January 31, 2027, Steeple hosts pianist/composer Nicolas Namoradze.&nbsp; Cited as a Musical America New Artist, BBC Music Magazine Rising Star, and Gramophone One to Watch, this artist won the Pianist of the Year Award in 2022 per the UK Critics’ Circle.&nbsp; Steeple’s March 14, 2027, concert features Chatham, NJ-based ensemble, Lyrica Chamber Music, since 1987 one of Morris County’s longest running chamber music series.
 On Sunday, May 23, 2027, Steeple’s annual Masterworks Concert will feature, Carl Orff’s beloved Carmina Burana. With its large chorus, solo vocalists, and impressive use of percussion, this cantata brings the season to an exciting close. In addition to the concert series, Steeple Concerts will hold a Gala Fundraiser on Saturday, November 7, to support its mission of bringing high-quality live music to the Westfield area.&nbsp; Tickets and information are available on <a href="https://steepleconcerts.org/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">steepleconcerts.org</a>. Tickets to the first four concerts are $40/adults and $15/students. Our group will be hosting a free fly tying night. The hours are 7-9pm. The room that we will be in, will be posted in the front lobby. The meeting is free and open to all. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. We will provide the tools, materials and instruction. You don't need to bring anything. We will be teaching how to tie a pheasant tail nymph. I will be including an INTRO LETTER with this post. It explains our history and our plans for the future.
