October Song Festa festive concert/cabaret of classical and popular song<a href="https://www.viraandfriends.org/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Vira + Friends</a> presents October Song Fest! From the rich, full basement of bass to the floating sky high of soprano, enjoy the full range of the human voice in opera, art song, musical theater and popular song. Join soprano Brooke Schooley, contralto Vira Slywotzky and bass Patrick Scully as they sing solos, duets and trios in dialogue with the virtuosic piano playing of David Sytkowski. Featured composers include Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Giuseppe Verdi, Stephen Kitsakos, Gian Carlo Menotti, Volodymyr Ivasiuk, Kostiantyn Dankevych, Henri Duparc, Henry Purcell, Richard Rodgers and Stephen Sondheim.

The Soul, Enchanted a concert of music by women composers<a href="https://www.viraandfriends.org/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Vira + Friends</a> presents The Soul, Enchanted - a concert of music by international women composers of the past and present. Join pianist Ana Glig, contralto Vira Slywotzky and special guest Miriam Eckelhoefer, cellist, on a joyous and moving musical journey. Revel in the sumptuous sound worlds of Alma Mahler, Meri Davitashvili, Florence Price, Martha Redbone, Sylvia Filus, Lori Laitman, Niloufar Nourbakhsh, Vivian Fung, Mary Ann Howe, Dina Pruzhansky, Olga Zaitseva-Herz and Augusta Holmès. Delight in the settings of humorous, probing, pensive and passionate texts. Performers will speak about the works and biographical information about the remarkable featured creators will be on hand.

The Schiller Institute NYC Chorus and full orchestra will join with the Japanese Peace Chorus, the Daiku NY Singers to perform Beethoven’s monumental Symphony No. 9 “Ode to Joy,” which has come to represent peace, reconciliation and the brotherhood of mankind throughout the world. Includes other works by Brahms, Dvorak, Mozart and Spirituals.
The FDNY Ceremonial Unit will open the program which also includes guest speaker Gary Marlon Gere, FDNY Honorary Battalion Chief &amp; official ground zero photographer and author of the new play, Recovery.&nbsp;

9/11 25th Year Memorial with Beethoven, Brahms & Schiller

Come and learn some practical tools for taking care of yourself, through the practice of T’ai Chi Chuan. Principles, postures and movements from the T’ai Chi form will be introduced, to help you notice were you tend to hold tension in your body, release that tension, and develop a more relaxed, balanced state. Benefits are physical and psychological, enabling us to stay grounded and balanced, despite what life throws at us.


Presented by the <a href="https://www.taichichuan.org/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">New York School of T’ai Chi Chuan</a>, Tai Chi is suitable for people of all ages, and no special clothing or equipment is required. Classes will be held on the center lawn and are weather permitting (follow us on social media for class cancellations). 
For thousands of years, the principles and practice of T’ai Chi Chuan have been helping people to release tension, regain their health, and experience more of their full potential. Literally translated as “Supreme Ultimate Fist,” T’ai Chi Chuan has been called the queen of martial arts. It’s basic tenet is simple and evident in Nature— “In Softness there is Strength.”

The Jay Heritage Center in Rye, New York will celebrate America at 250 with a toast to Jay Medal honorees Pulitzer Prize-winning author Annette Gordon-Reed, the Carl M. Loeb University Professor at Harvard University and award-winning Lincoln historian Harold Holzer.
The Jay Medal for Service was created in 2012 to recognize individuals who demonstrate a selfless spirit of commitment to and engagement with their community mirroring the multifaceted contributions of John Jay and his descendants. These honorees have demonstrated through their life's work that our shared narratives as a country, complicated as they are, can be better illuminated through the highest caliber of ongoing scholarship and advocacy. Honorees are selected for their excellence in the fields of American history, environmental stewardship, social justice or civic engagement.
Joining the celebration will be Chief Judge of the State of New York and the New York Court of Appeals, Honorable Rowan D. Wilson and historian and philanthropist Elihu Rose who will present the awards at JHC's annual Soirée. Special guests will include David Blight, Frank Cogliano, Joanne Freeman, and Beverly Gage.

The Jay Medal Soirée will be held Saturday, September 19, 2026 at the Jay Estate from 5:30-9:30pm. Cocktails, dinner, award ceremony and dancing. Cocktail Attire.
