📰 News we're reading

• Southern Utah University opens 51,000-square-foot music center, 510-seat concert hall (ksl.com) — Southern Utah University in Cedar City has opened its new 51,250‑square‑foot George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Music Center, featuring a 510‑seat Okerlund Concert Hall. The state‑of‑the‑art building more than doubles previous music space, adds specialized labs and recital areas, and is expected to significantly expand SUU's music programs and cultural offerings for the Cedar City community.

• Another Utah city joins the growing — but costly — wastewater reuse bandwagon (kuer.org) — Cedar City is investing millions in a three-phase wastewater reuse project that will irrigate parks and schools with treated water, freeing up about a third of the city's current drinking supply. Local water leaders say the system, backed by state and federal funds, aims to protect shrinking aquifers and guard against drought, while pairing reuse with conservation and recharge efforts.

• Residents call for Iron County to clear thick debris that could cause flooding (kmyu.tv) — Cedar City residents in the Flying El Ranches subdivision are pressing Iron County to clear heavy debris from the Coal Creek Wash, fearing a repeat of damaging 2021 flooding. County engineers say vegetation helps stabilize the banks and that channel capacity is being monitored, but neighbors argue regular cleanouts are urgently needed while a lawsuit over past flood damage is still pending.
