Cooler with a few showers. High: 56 Low: 43.
Here are the top three stories in Salt Lake City today:
- It's always good news when search and rescue teams don't come off the mountain empty-handed. After two hikers got stranded in Ferguson Canyon near Big Cottonwood Canyon, SAR teams deployed in response to a 911 call from one of the hikers who lost a shoe in a snowfield and couldn't continue without it. In less than two hours, all were off the mountain and safely rescued. - Competing points of view that range from immediate needs for those experiencing homelessness to the concerns of the residents in various neighborhoods where homeless resource centers are proposed has the Salt Lake City Council ready to approve SLC Mayor Erin Mendenhall's proposal to extend the city's moratorium on building new homeless shelters for yet another year. Council members representing Salt Lake's westside have also submitted a request to not concentrate future shelters and resource centers in the neighborhoods they represent, but to embrace a more evenly spread scattered-site model. - Firefighters in Salt Lake City arrived at an Avenues hair salon on Sunday afternoon to witness heavy smoke pouring out of the roof. The Bauhaus Salon at 480 E. 6th Avenue sustained heavy damage in what was classified a two-alarm fire since the first responders quickly assessed the situation and called for backup. Luckily no injuries were reported and the firefighters quickly got the flames under control, but what caused the fire is still being investigated. (Gephardt Daily)
