USU Data Interns Make Impact Through Partnership With Salt Lake City Police (usu.edu) — Salt Lake City residents are seeing new data-driven help at their police department, thanks to Utah State University interns embedded across SLCPD units this summer. Students are building safety dashboards, improving training compliance, organizing evidence, and supporting community policing projects like an online reporting system and neighborhood block party planning. Police leaders say the partnership is already benefiting officers and the broader community.
2. Redevelopment planned for Salt Lake City's 100-year-old silos with housing, hotel, park (kutv.com) — A massive makeover of Salt Lake City's Granary District is underway, turning the century-old silos on 500 South into Silo Park with 720 housing units, a hotel, park space and a major entertainment complex. Nearby historic warehouse buildings are being rebuilt into restaurants, apartments and retail, with up to $2 billion in investment poised to reshape this growing neighborhood.
3. U approves $10.6 billion annual budget as revenue, enrollment rises – The Daily Utah Chronicle (dailyutahchronicle.com) — The University of Utah in Salt Lake City has approved a $10.6 billion budget for fiscal 2027, reflecting rising enrollment and revenue despite federal funding cuts and healthcare pressures. Most spending will go to wages and University of Utah Health, with leaders planning nearly $5 billion in investments over five years to expand research, healthcare, and educational capacity that serve the state and city.
4. Urban Arts Gallery 'Connects' local artists through monthly events – The Daily Utah Chronicle (dailyutahchronicle.com) — Salt Lake City artists have a long-running home at Urban Arts Gallery's monthly Connect nights, where creators bring work, share personal stories and vote on pieces to display. The program, part of Utah Arts Alliance, doubles as a support group and networking hub, with annual finals in December bringing together winners from Salt Lake, Ogden and St. George.
5. 'Beetlejuice' star Alec Baldwin to appear at FanX Salt Lake Comic Convention (abc4.com) — Salt Lake City's 2026 FanX Comic Convention is adding a big Hollywood name, with Alec Baldwin joining the guest lineup. He'll appear alongside stars from Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Twilight, Star Trek, and the voices behind several Disney princesses, giving local fans a rare chance to meet dozens of film and TV favorites in one place.
