Reservations will become available for Salt Lake Temple open house tours: How to get a ticket (abc4.com) — If you want to tour the newly renovated Salt Lake Temple, you can start reserving free open house tickets on Sept. 1 through TempleSquare.org or the Temple Square app. Tours in downtown Salt Lake City will run daily during a six‑month celebration starting April 5, 2027, with accessibility accommodations and many Temple Square activities available even without reservations.
2. ICE no longer intends to turn Salt Lake City warehouse into detention center, court filing says (bigcountrynewsconnection.com) — Federal officials now say they no longer plan to turn a Salt Lake City warehouse on 300 South into a massive immigration detention center, pausing the city and county's lawsuit for 60 days. Local leaders who opposed the project over infrastructure, environmental, and public safety concerns are waiting as DHS moves to declare the property excess and hand it to the GSA.
3. 'It's like a hot box' more SLC senior residents speak out over cooling problems (fox13now.com) — Salt Lake City seniors at Phillips Plaza say unreliable cooling has left their subsidized apartments sweltering for months, forcing some to improvise with fans and ice just to sleep. The Housing Authority of Salt Lake City says it's upgrading the building's system and treating the issue as urgent, but residents report temporary units aren't adequately cooling their small spaces yet.
4. SmallSat 2026: NASA Brings the Next Small Spacecraft, Smarter Missions, and Space Innovation to the Forefront (undercodenews.com) — NASA is bringing a major showcase of small‑satellite technology, science, and commercial partnerships to the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City from August 23–26, 2026. Expect sessions on everything from launch options and orbital traffic management to AI‑driven satellite constellations, giving local space professionals and students a rare chance to engage directly with cutting‑edge NASA missions and industry leaders.
