1. Salt Lake Temple open house reservations are opening soon. Here's how to get tickets (deseret.com) — If you want to tour the renovated Salt Lake Temple in downtown Salt Lake City, the first batch of free open house tickets goes live Sept. 1 at 11 a.m. on TempleSquare.org and the Temple Square app. The six‑month celebration runs April 5–Oct. 1, 2027, with daily tour times, accessibility options, and many Temple Square activities that don't require reservations.
2. Proposed high-rise next to Salt Lake City historic church quietly fizzles (ksl.com) — A controversial 421-unit high-rise proposed just east of downtown Salt Lake City, next to historic St. Mark's Cathedral, has been quietly dropped after zoning pushback and neighborhood criticism. The Central City site at 265 E. 100 South has been sold, the rezoning request closed, and local leaders now hope for a smaller, MU-8–compatible project that better protects the church and fits the neighborhood.
3. Hogle Zoo welcomes new tiger as part of breeding program (fox13now.com) — Families visiting Salt Lake City's Hogle Zoo can now meet Maxim, a 14-year-old male Amur tiger newly arrived from the Saint Louis Zoo for an endangered-species breeding program with resident tiger Sasha. Keepers say he's settling in with water play and enrichment toys while staff slowly introduce the pair through barriers before any full-contact encounters.
4. The best moment of the new 'Inside a Temple' tour at Temple Square (ldsliving.com) — Curious what the inside of a Latter-day Saint temple looks like without waiting for an open house? Temple Square's new year‑round "Inside a Temple" tour in Salt Lake City offers ticketed, 30‑minute guided walks through full‑scale replica rooms, including a memorable celestial room experience. It's designed for all backgrounds, with reservations available through Temple Square's website or app.
5. After emergency ban, Utah's fireworks laws may get another look (fox13now.com) — State leaders meeting in Salt Lake City are weighing whether to give cities more power to ban personal fireworks after this summer's emergency statewide ban. Mayors from places like West Jordan, Midvale, and Moab say local control helped them respond to wildfire danger and want lawmakers to consider permanent changes once fire season ends.
