1. Flames erupt from commercial fire near Redwood Road in Salt Lake (kutv.com) — A commercial fire near 300 South and Redwood Road sent thick black smoke over Salt Lake City Tuesday afternoon, prompting safety advice for anyone nearby. Fire officials say they don't suspect hazardous materials but urge people to avoid the area, stay indoors or in vehicles with windows closed, and use air purifiers or quality filters if possible.
2. More Salt Lake Temple open house tickets dropping in 2 upcoming waves (deseret.com) — Salt Lake City residents will soon have another chance to snag free tickets to tour the newly renovated Salt Lake Temple, with two additional online releases set for Sept. 15 and Oct. 1. Church leaders expect 4 to 5 million visitors during the April–October 2027 open house, with in‑person and virtual experiences centered on the temple and Temple Square.
3. Despite pushback, Salt Lake City Police back use of license plate cameras (fox13now.com) — Salt Lake City police are standing by their use of license plate reader cameras, saying the technology helps find stolen cars, violent suspects, and missing people while data is deleted after nine months unless needed for investigations. Their stance comes as several Utah cities and the governor raise privacy concerns and review how such systems are used statewide.
4. MEAN GIRLS — Principal Actors (broadwayworld.com) — Salt Lake City performers have a chance to audition for Pioneer Theatre Company's upcoming production of Mean Girls, with principal actor auditions scheduled for October 2 at the Simmons Pioneer Memorial Theatre. Equity and local actors are encouraged to prepare a one‑minute contemporary musical theatre song, with rehearsals beginning in January and performances running through mid‑February 2027.
5. It's Thriller time at Odyssey Dance Theatre (abc4.com) — Salt Lake City audiences can catch Odyssey Dance Theatre's popular Halloween show "Thriller" at The Grand Theatre from October 9–24, with tickets expected to sell out quickly. The production tours several Utah cities, blending multiple dance styles with classic spooky characters, and organizers say they've expanded dates and locations this year because of strong demand.
