1. 'There is a huge issue in access to justice': Utah State Bar holds 8th summit about legal resources available to Utahns (abc4.com) — Salt Lake City hosted the Utah State Bar's 8th Annual Access to Justice Summit, focused on expanding free and low-cost legal help for Utahns who often face court alone. Local attorneys, courts, nonprofits, and law schools explored solutions for debt collection, eviction, housing stability, expungement, and even responsible use of AI so residents can better navigate the legal system.
2. After high demand and 'bot activity,' this music legend has added a 3rd show in Salt Lake City (deseret.com) — Garth Brooks has added a third show at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City after overwhelming demand and ticketing issues tied to bots. Alongside his October 9 and 10 concerts, he'll now play a Sunday matinee on October 11, with tickets for the new date going on sale September 22 at 10 a.m. MDT.
3. Utah State Fair watches weather as storms move through Salt Lake City (fox13now.com) — Storms moving through Salt Lake City haven't stopped families from enjoying the Utah State Fair, but organizers are closely monitoring weather and ready to pause rides or move guests indoors if conditions worsen. Staff track storms within 10 miles, use PA announcements for shelter instructions, and may issue rain checks, while the fair continues at the Fairpark through Sunday.
4. This bionic arm sounds like science fiction — but it's not (deseret.com) — Researchers at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City showcased a thought-controlled 'LUKE Arm' that lets an amputee move a robotic hand and actually feel what he's touching. The neuroprosthetic, tested by local participant Avi Davidson, could soon extend to legs, wheelchairs, and other assistive devices, potentially transforming life for people with disabilities worldwide.
5. Great Salt Lake's health tied to national security, legislative commission is told (fox13now.com) — State officials meeting in Salt Lake City were told the Great Salt Lake's health is now considered a national security issue because it affects nearby military bases and training areas. The Sentinel Landscape program spans nine counties, tying conservation, wildfire prevention, and development limits directly to military readiness and long-term stability for northern Utah communities.
