1. Ogden artist completes landmark Japanese mural in Salt Lake (kutv.com) — Salt Lake City's Japantown just gained a striking new landmark: a massive Japanese-themed mural on the north side of a 15-story residential building behind the Salt Lake Buddhist Temple. Created by Ogden artist Cole Eisenhour with support from the Salt Lake Arts Council and CRA, the piece is rich with symbolic details honoring Japanese American history and community in Utah.
2. Temple Square Open to the Public for General Conference (churchofjesuschrist.org) — Temple Square in downtown Salt Lake City is reopening from State Street to West Temple just in time for October's General Conference, giving you a chance to walk the grounds and see new religious statues. Tickets are required for Conference Center sessions, and additional reservations for next year's Salt Lake Temple Celebration open house tours will be released in batches starting October 1.
3. Phase 2 Delta Center renovations complete (fox13now.com) — Salt Lake City sports fans will see big changes at the Delta Center, where Phase 2 renovations have refreshed every seat and improved views, especially for Utah Mammoth hockey games. Crews reworked over 1,500 upper-bowl seats, upgraded food and sightlines, and set the stage for the first event in the revamped arena: Utah hosting the Colorado Avalanche in a preseason matchup.
4. Multiple Salt Lake neighborhoods could see investments (abc4.com) — Salt Lake City residents could see fresh investment flowing into several local neighborhoods as Governor Spencer Cox recommends 11 Salt Lake County areas for a new round of federal Opportunity Zones. The program offers tax breaks to investors who back projects in low‑income communities, building on earlier investments that spurred housing, industrial growth, and mixed‑use development in and around the city.
5. 70 bears euthanized in Utah amid spike in human encounters (abc4.com) — Wildlife officials based in Salt Lake City report that 70 black bears have been euthanized across Utah this year amid drought-driven food shortages and a surge in human encounters, including a tranquilized bear in the Avenues neighborhood. With incidents nearly quadrupling since 2025, the Division of Wildlife Resources is stressing public safety and sharing guidance on what to do if you meet a bear outdoors or in town.
