🌱 Authorities Shutdown Homeless Camp + Pioneer Park $20M Vision

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Salt Lake City.

Hello, neighbors! It's me again, Joseph Peterson, your host of the Salt Lake City Daily.

First, today's weather:

Mostly sunny. High: 55 Low: 34. Sunset 6:07 PM. Here's a look at your Patch Forecast for the week ahead.

Here are the top five stories in Salt Lake City today:

  1. Frustrations rise in the wake of authorities clearing and relocating about 100 people from a Salt Lake homeless camp at 546 S 700 W on Thursday. Residents of the tent city named it Fort Pioneer and prided themselves in keeping a clean camp and giving residents different jobs to do to serve the 'outdoor apartment community,' the preferred description over 'camp.' But the Salt Lake County Department of Health had pressing concerns and fostered aims to clear out the settlement for a while, but waited until space opened up in the Weigand Centerand other residential shelters. (KSL.com)
  2. New plans have been released that outline the $20 million vision for upgrading Salt Lake City's Pioneer Park. The oldest park in the Utah's capital has struggled with its reputation in recent years outside of its popular weekend farmer's market as a high-traffic location for vagrancy. But the neighborhood around this 10-acre public park has seen more population growth since 2010 than any other part of the city, and work on a reimagined space could begin as early as 2023 if the City Council gives the funding greenlight. (Salt Lake Tribune)
  3. The odds don't look good for the bid team behind Salt Lake City's effort to secure the 2024 GOP convention as Milwaukee emerges as a clear 'frontrunner' according to one report. Republican party leaders toured Milwaukee venues this week, and some national reporters have written that 'the verdict is in' regarding the selection of Wisconsin's most populous city.
