🌱 Birds Quarantined At Hogle + Homeless Camp Abatement Near Capitol

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Salt Lake City.

Up and at 'em, Salt Lake City! Here's everything you need to know to get this Thursday started off right.

First, today's weather:

Breezy with some sun. High: 70 Low: 44.

Here are the top three stories in Salt Lake City today:

  1. The latest homeless camp abatement in Salt Lake City on Victory Road dismantles what at least one person living there described as one of the more stable encampments for those experiencing homelessness in the city. The abatement effort will leave what city officials estimate are about 50 camp residents who will be looking for 'stability' and somewhere else to stay, although camp residents say that number is closer to 100. (KUER 90.1)
  2. We're seeing stripes. Utah's Hogle Zoo now has six Hartmann's zebras at home in its African Savanna exhibit after the successful birth of a new zebra foal born earlier this month. The foal's mother, Ziva, has given birth twice before, and zoo staff say this one was nearly a "textbook" delivery. Bryce is the young zebra's name and can be seen out and about as temperatures warm. (ABC4.com)
  3. Quarantining is for the birds. Staying with the animals for our third story, the Hogle Zoo has quarantined its birds due to the current spreading of the avian flu in bird populations across the country. With two cases confirmed in Utah, the zoo has decided to isolate its birds and drain its pond to not entice wild birds from getting too close to the exhibits within the zoo. (KSL.com)
