🌱 Body Found In Ballpark + How Much SLCo Gets From Opioid Settlement

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Salt Lake City.

Happy Tuesday, Salt Lake City! Here's everything you need to know to get this day started in the 801.

First, today's weather:

Cloudy with a shower or two. High: 51 Low: 42.

Here are the top three stories today in Salt Lake City:

  1. Salt Lake City is seeing a hotel boom, with the addition of what will be a handful of new hotels like Hyatt Regency, the massive 700-room highrise attached to the Salt Palace convention center, and several other smaller, luxury hotels bringing the anticipated room count up to 1,500, which is equivalent to the number of combined residential units currently under development in the Astra Tower, the Main Street Apartments, and the Domain Apartments in downtown Salt Lake. (buildingsaltlake.com)
  2. Salt Lake County's slice of the settlement pie from a landmark nationwide lawsuit over opioids is going to be $57M, 85% of which is already slated to go toward opioid abatement, according to Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson. While Wilson says that amount is not nearly enough to undo the damage of opioid abuse, an abatement effort that takes the form of education and prevention programs for youth and families is a key component for harm reduction. (KUER 90.1)
  3. A dead body was discovered at a construction site in Salt Lake City near 230 West along 1300 South. The police were first notified just before 7:00 AM Monday morning. While the identity of the deceased person has not been released at this time, the police are investigating the situation as a suspicious death. As of this writing, the scene has been secured but the cause of death is still unknown. (ABC4.com)
