One great way to explore Salt Lake is by visiting its many museums that touch upon various subjects. Here are some you should check out the next time you’re in town.
The Leonardo Museum: Named after the famous Leonardo Da Vinci, this museum combines creativity from art, science, and technology; much like Da Vinci himself. All three concentrations are combined in numerous exhibits and installations throughout the halls. You’ll also find plenty of interactive and activities that you’re meant to touch! Kids and adults alike will enjoy the engaging exhibits.
Daughters of Utah Pioneers: Did you know that this museum is the largest in the entire world focused on one subject, pioneers. Throughout the various exhibits you’ll find memorabilia and artifacts dating back to 1869; remnants of the earliest settlers in the Great Salt Lake Area. If you’re looking to find evidence of pioneers in your family, the history and photography department are open for research purposes. Admission to this museum is free.

The City Library: The library might seem like an unusual stop while exploring Salt Lake City, but it is one of the most fascinating. Many argue that it is one of the city’s most “remarkable contemporary structures.” The building spans five stories, with one side made entirely of glass. This side overlooks stunning waterfalls, fountains and sculptures, and on the fourth floor you’ll find an art gallery.
Gilgal Sculpture Garden: Designed by Thomas Battersby Child Jr. in 1945, this garden is unknown to many as it is tucked away on a side street in the middle of the city. You’ll find 12 sculptures throughout the garden as well as other inscriptions. One of the most common known pieces is the Solemn Sphinx, with the body of a crouching animal and a face of the LDS church founder Joseph Smith. Admission to the sculpture garden is free.
