🌱 Could SLC Lose Its All-Star Game? + The Flavors Of NOLA In SLC

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Salt Lake City.

Morning, Salt Lake City! Let's get you all caught up to start this day off on an informed note. Here's what's going on today in the 801.

First, today's weather:

Sunny to partly cloudy. High: 74 Low: 52.

Here are the top three stories in Salt Lake City today:

  1. Could Salt Lake City lose the 2023 NBA All-Star Game over a controversial bill? That's the big "what if" Governor Spencer Cox is asking legislators to consider who pushed through a last-minute bill baring transgender youth in Utah from participating in certain high school sports. The governor penned his intention to veto the bill to the legislature, but the Republican super majority appears to have the votes to overturn the veto. Still, the governor hopes that social blowback like losing the All-Star Game currently scheduled for Salt Lake City may yet give pause to how legislators may vote. (KSL.com)
  2. Nostalgic audiences in Salt Lake City can relive the rock-and-roll frenzy of 1960s Beatlemania with the stage performance of 'The British Invasion' coming to the Eccles Theater tonight for one night only. It brings with it the sights and sounds of when the world went bananas for the Beatles and Brit pop/rock. The British Invasion brings tunes from The Who, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and more to the Eccles Stage in a show where audience members are encouraged to get out of their seats and dance. (Gephardt Daily)
  3. The flavors of New Orleans come to Salt Lake City in a new takeout restaurant that will eventually have its own dine-in area as well. Neutral Ground Lounge, a reference to the little park strips in the middle of the streets in New Orleans, which have a long history of being a kind of cross-cultural gathering space isn't just the name of the restaurant that cofounder John Belvin brought to Salt Lake's airport hotel area off of North Temple, but is a natural expression of its mission in bringing together flavors and culture to enjoy the world-famous culinary heritage that SLC has not really seen in its food scene before.
