π± COVID-19 Comes To Utah Mule Deer + Crime At The Fisher Mansion
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Salt Lake City.
Happy Wednesday, Salt Lake City! Let's get you all caught up on what's happening locally to start today off on an informed note.
First, today's weather:
Mostly sunny. High: 62 Low: 44.
Here are the top three stories today in Salt Lake City:
- This is the story of a Salt Lake man who was in Ukraine delivering supplies to the people in the city of Lviv. It's also the story of how a woman approached that man in Lviv, asked for help escaping the country, and that she had a brother in Salt Lake City. Help her he did, and now, back in Utah, it was time to bring the whole saga full circle. The woman's brother met with the aid worker recently in an SLC coffee shop to express gratitude and marvel together at the chance encounter in the middle of a war that changed the course of their lives. Lviv was bombed by the Russian military a few days after the rescue. (KSL.com)
- Crime comes once again to the historic Fisher Mansion along the Jordan River in Salt Lake City. This time, the Victorian-era brass fence next to the iconic structure was unearthed and taken away. "Another piece of the mansion has gone and will never be recovered," said David Amott with the Utah Preservation Society. The structure is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and was designed by the same architect who designed Utah's state capitol building. (FOX 13 News Utah)
- A mule deer in Utah has tested positive for COVID-19, the first such diagnosis in the country according to officials at the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources. While COVID-19 has been seen in other deer populations, the asymptomatic female mule deer in Morgan County is the first known mule deer to get it, with the diagnosis confirmed by a lab in Iowa. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has been testing wildlife across the country, and this finding is a part of that effort. (2 KUTV)
