🌱 Dead Body In Hotel Room Identified + Outdoor Retailer Boycott?

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Salt Lake City.

Happy Wednesday, people of Salt Lake City! Let's get this day started. Here's everything you need to know in town today.

First, today's weather:

Colder with a bit of snow. High: 39 Low: 26.

Here are the top five stories in Salt Lake City today:

  1. Salt Lake City Police have identified the 19-year-old U of U student found dead in a downtown hotel room. Zhifan Dong, allegedly killed by her boyfriend, fellow international U of U student Haoyu Wang, was found last Friday at the Quality Inn in Salt Lake City when police pinged her cell phone location after receiving an email from Wang that said he injected the victim with heroin to relieve her from suffering. Wang told police, after he was read his rights, that they had intended to commit suicide together. (Gephardt Daily)
  2. It sparked no small amount of controversy when Utah became the first state in the nation to implement a legal driving limit of blood alcohol below 0.08 in 2017, but new research by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has found 'demonstrably positive impacts' and correlations from the policy. Moreover, while there were fewer alcohol-related accidents, there wasn't a decrease in alcohol sales, which some detractors feared. (ABC 4)
  3. The environmental conservation group known as The Conservation Alliance, along with dozens of outdoor brands and companies all say they would boycott the once-mighty Outdoor Retailer trade show that stopped hosting its bi-annual shows in Salt Lake City over disagreements of how state leaders were managing public and recreational land, particularly over the state's request to then-President Trump to repeal the designation of the Bears Ears National Monument. The trade show moved to Denver but is considering moving again once its contract with that city is up later this year. (KUTV 2News)
