Here are the top three stories in Salt Lake City today:

  1. Guests of the Hampton Inn & Suites on Foothill Drive in Salt Lake City were evacuated, Thursday, due to a suspicious package delivered to the hotel. More than a suspicious package, surveillance footage showed a man hastily position a backpack in a suspicious way before quickly leaving the hotel. No dangerous materials were discovered by robots from the Hazardous Devices Unit, but it wasn't until 1 a.m. until guests could return to their rooms. (FOX 13 News Utah)
  2. Community members gathered at Salt Lake Community College's Peace and Justice Garden to hold a vigil for victims of mass shootings, particularly the ones who have died over the last week-and-a-half in Texas and in Buffalo, New York. The names of those lost to gun violence were written on small flags fastened to short wire poles and placed into the ground for a symbolic visual display to honor each individual. See photos and quotes from the attendees in the article. (KJZZ)
  3. Traveling for the holiday weekend? As record-breaking heat has come into the Salt Lake Valley with high pressure systems this week, expect a bit of a shift to a potentially stormy Memorial Day weekend with colder temperatures down into the 60s. For those heading to the southern part of the state, winds are expected to rise, increasing the fire danger. (ABC4.com)
