The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Salt Lake City.
Get on up, Salt Lake City! Let's get you all caught up to start this Thursday, May 12 off on an informed note. Here's everything happening today in the SLC.
First, today's weather:
Cool with clouds and sun. High: 61 Low: 46.
Here are the top three stories today in Salt Lake City:
- Will the iconic Murray Theater be another casualty of the pandemic? After years of ups and downs, residents of Murray and members of the Historic Murray First Foundation want to see the long-shuttered landmark re-open to shows and audiences again. They even got $3 million from the county to help restore it. But still, the future is uncertain for the theater that first opened its doors in 1938. (FOX 13 News Utah)
- The body of a Salt Lake woman who went missing last week has been found in Tooele. Brooklyn Elise Odland Tyree's death sparked a letter from Rocky Anderson, a former mayor of Salt Lake City and a family friend of the Tyrees, criticizing the police for not taking the case seriously, calling their efforts an "outrageous failure." As for the police, they now have Tyree's ex-boyfriend in custody on suspicion of murder. (KSL.com)
- In a unanimous vote, the Salt Lake City Council voted in favor of reducing the city's default speed limit to 20 mph from 25 mph. In reaction to the growing number of auto-related accidents, particularly a series of pedestrian-related collisions throughout the city, organizers, and advocates coined a "twenty is plenty" campaign that has now become an official city program.
