🌱 A Not-So-Clever Crime At SLC Airport + 200 S Corridor Changes

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Salt Lake City.

Good morning, people of Salt Lake City! Joseph Peterson here with the latest edition of the Salt Lake City Daily.

First, today's weather:

Welcome to March. Expect some sunshine, some clouds, and light wind. High: 56 Low: 35. Daylight check: Sun up at 7:03 AM, Sunset 6:19 PM. A perfect day to get stuff done!

Here are the top three stories in Salt Lake City today:

  1. John Stockton's son, Michael Stockton, fled Ukraine just days before Russia invaded. The Utah Jazz legend's son, a former star of Westminster College's basketball team in Salt Lake City, has been playing professional basketball in Europe for the last several years, and recently signed with the Ukrainian Basketball Super League team Budivelnyk based out of Kyiv. Multiple reports state that Stockton left Ukraine and returned safely home to Spokane, Washington. (ABC 4)
  2. You may have noticed that 200 S through the heart of Salt Lake has seen many changes during the last two years. That's because, as one of the busiest east-west corridors through the city, it's undergoing a reconstruction project to make it a "transit priority street." When the city asked for feedback in 2020, transportation advocacy groups like Salt Lake's Sweet Streets have spoken up to spread awareness of the project and to let the city know what aspects of the plan they'd like to see prioritized or tweaked, like painted, dedicated bus lanes and improved signage. (KUER 90.1)
  3. A Phoenix man has been charged for stealing catalytic converters from cars at the SLC Airport. Security footage showed a Dodge Charger pulling up to multiple cars in an airport economy parking lot where Ryan Brannon Ogburn got out and took a jack to raise the targeted cars, remove the catalytic converters, and place them in the Charger's trunk. The only problem for Ogburn was that the Charger was a rental car from an Enterprise in Phoenix, which made it easy for officials to track. The 29-year-old faces 10 third-degree felonies. Looking for a healthy alternative to that mid-week glass (or three) of wine? Our partners at Betera set out to create beverages that were sophisticated and flavorful enough to drink at cocktail hour but with zero hangover risk. (Their motto is "Drink like there's tomorrow.") Betera's drinks are designed by a Michelin-starred chef using natural botanicals — they're lightly effervescent, sippable, refreshingly bitter and at home in a stem glass or in a highball on the rocks. Betera offers three recipes — Rhubarb-Hibiscus, Elderflower-Lime and Ginger-Orange. We've tried all three and loved them equally — we recommend the mixed case as a great place to start.
Betera has extended their 15% discount on first orders to Daily readers, in appreciation for the enthusiastic response so far. Enter Patch15 at checkout and https://bit.ly/TryBetera.

Each night a different performer joins the playwright on stage, while the script waits unseen in a sealed box… Touchingly autobiographical yet powerfully universal, Nassim is a striking theatrical demonstration of how language can both divide and unite us." See it tonight at the University of Utah's Kingsbury Hall. (7:00 PM)
