🌱 Outdoor Retailer Returns To SLC + SLC's Ukrainian Sister City!

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Salt Lake City.

Rise and shine, Salt Lake City! It's Thursday, so let's get you started with everything you need to know going on today in town.

First, today's weather:

Mostly sunny and mild. High: 69 Low: 47. Sunset expected at 7:44 PM.

Here are the top three stories in Salt Lake City today:

  1. Outdoor Retailer is coming back to its once longtime home in Salt Lake City. The twice-annual tradeshow giant left Utah back in 2017 in part to protest state politicians' support for then-President Trump's scaling back of Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante national monuments. Now it's slated to come back to Utah's capital for at least three years, partly due to Salt Lake City mayor Erin Mendenhall's negotiations wherein she promoted her own administration's enviornmental policies. OR's return to SLC isn't seen as a good thing by all, however, and many well-known brands like REI and Patagonia plan to boycott the show in Salt Lake City, despite having large business operations within the state. 2. Roman Klichuk, is the mayor of the touristy western Ukranian city of Chernivtsi, a city that is a sister city of Salt Lak City. Klichuk addressed the members of the Salt Lake City Council, giving a sober update of everything his town is experiencing in a brief 2-minute video. But why did he address SLC's city council? Well, Salt Lake City and Chernivtsi were united through the Sister Cities International organization in 1989, but it was newly elected city councilman Alejandro Puy, curious about the city when fighting broke out, who discovered the sister city status and sought to resurrect the old relationship that had fallen out of contact for years. 3. Don't forget the sardines! 'Noises Off' is widely considered one of the grandest farces ever written, and it's playing at Salt Lake Community College's Grand Theatre starting tonight. In the production directed by Anne Stewart Mark who has five times played the character of Belinda in the show, the characters try their best putting on a play within the play that progressively goes wrong as the audience witnesses disaster, love triangles, and missed cues both from a backstage and front-of-curtain point of view.
