🌱 SLC On 100 Dangerous Cities List + Fur Protest At City Creek

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Salt Lake City.

Morning, Salt Lake City! Be the most interesting person at the water cooler today by starting off on an informed note. Life goals, right? Well, here are the important things happening in SLC today.

First, today's weather:

A morning shower; cooler. High: 52 Low: 32. Sunset: 7:36 PM

Here are the top three stories today in Salt Lake City:

  1. Salt Lake City's 26% increase in violent crime was enough to see it return to the list of top 100 most dangerous cities in the United States, where it last appeared in 2018. The yearly list is an aggregation of various data around different kinds of crime compiled and analyzed by NeighborhoodScout. According to NeighborhoodScout, Utah's Capital sees almost 2,000 violent crimes and about 15,000 property crimes every year. (FOX 13 News Utah)
  2. Utah may be one of the only states where consumers can nab a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle whiskey for hundreds of dollars less than what it would cost in a free market elsewhere. For example, customers can expect to pay between $70 and $300 depending on the age of the whiskey in the bottle of Pappy they buy. But that discount, due to a Utah law that mandates the sale of liquors in state-owned stores at an 88% markup, comes with a lottery. And that lottery comes with a deadline, which is tomorrow at midnight. With only 155 bottles allocated to the state, consider this your reminder. (FOX 13 News Utah)
  3. A protestor from an anti-fur demonstration against designer brand Louis Vuitton had City Creek Mall in downtown SLC seeing red. Protestor Trevor Francis Bellaccomo allegedly threw some kind of red paint into the City Creek fountain after being confronted by police. The Coalition to Abolish the Fur Trade, the organization behind the protest, confirmed that the red symbolized the blood Louis Vuitton had on its hands from killing animals for fashion. The damages of the paint totaled $6,000 since the 100,000-gallon fountain needed to be totally drained in order to be cleaned. (ABC4.com)
