🌱 'Suspicious Death' At Downtown Hotel + Bank Robber On The Run

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Salt Lake City.

Good morning, people of Salt Lake City! It's me again, Joseph Peterson, your host of the Salt Lake City Daily.

First, today's weather:

Hazy sunshine. High: 49 Low: 27.

Here are the top five stories today in Salt Lake City:

  1. A serial bank robber in Utah with a suspected six robberies...erm...'in the bank,' so to speak, is still on the loose and the Salt Lake City Field Office of the FBI is reaching out to the public to help locate the culprit. The man typically wears a mask and a beanie, and twice wore a construction worker's vest. All of the bank jobs were in Salt Lake County. (fox13now.com)
  2. After finding a body in a Quality Inn hotel room in downtown Salt Lake City, police are now investigating what they deem a "suspicious death." While little is still known to the public, police say there is no threat to the community, and reportedly one person has been taken into custody to be questioned. (Salt Lake City Patch)
  3. A new and innovative therapy at Salt Lake's Primary Children's Hospital can replace tiny heart valves and have the patient back to regular activities within a week, avoiding open-heart surgery altogether, making it a far less risky endeavor. When patients have chronic, severe pulmonary valve regurgitation, kids and adults can get this Harmony Heart Valve via a procedure which uses catheters that enter the body via the leg, a far less invasive solution. • Join comedians making jokes over the movie that was the only love story that was NOT better than Twilight. It's a film Roast of 50 Shades of Grey, tonight, at Brewvies Cinema Pub (9:30 PM)

From my notebook:

  • Join Ballet West's Artistic Director, Adam Sklute as he takes you along a journey to discuss the recreation of Michael Smuin's Romeo + Juliet. Michael Smuin (1938 – 2007) was a celebrated dancer, choreographer and director, whose credits include ballets, Broadway musicals (won a Tony Award for 1987's revival of Anything Goes), and film. Tomorrow, Ballet West brings back to life a reconstructed production of Smuin's beloved Romeo + Juliet. (Ballet West)
  • We love the #BridgetoBackman! As promised, here are more photos and drone footage of yesterday's bridge installation at Backman Elementary. Special thanks to the many partners who are helping make this project happen! (Salt Lake City Public Lands)
