🌱 What New Int'l Market Means For Fairpark + Monkeypox in SL County

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Salt Lake City.

Hi all. I'm back in your inbox this morning with your new edition of the Salt Lake City Daily. Keep reading to find out everything you need to know about what's going on these days in town...

First, today's weather:

Sunny to partly cloudy. High: 71 Low: 49.

Here are the top three stories in Salt Lake City today:

  1. West Side News: Local craft artisans and food trucks will be part of a celebration this weekend at the Utah State Fairpark as a new international market opens in the historic barns on the property near the Fairpark Trax station. The arrival of an international market to cater to one of Utah's most diverse neighborhoods signals a new era for the actual Fairpark as well, as plans are made to turn the site into a year-round attraction and not just a visitor draw during the fair. (FOX 13 News Utah)
  2. Virus awareness: Two monkeypox cases have been confirmed by officials in Salt Lake County in two adult individuals from the same household who recently traveled internationally. Typically a condition contained to parts of central and west Africa, the monkeypox infection is contracted through cuts, scratches, or through the eyes, nose, or mouth (according to the CDC) like most infections, although it isn't easily spread. Utah's public health system has not identified any exposure risk to the public stemming from these two probable cases. (Salt Lake City Patch)
  3. Public Safety: Police in Salt Lake City have successfully recovered six stolen vehicles as part of a multi-department auto theft recovery effort. But the Sargent who oversees the auto theft unit says that the cars don't always make it back to the original owner in working condition, noting that many stolen cars sustain major damage. Unfortunately the "drive it like it's stolen" hits a little too close to reality. The good news is that car thefts for April this year are 30% less than in April last year. (2 KUTV)
