• New air traffic control tower cleared to take off at Spanish Fork Airport (fox13now.com) — Spanish Fork Airport is set to get its first air traffic control tower after the city joined the FAA's Federal Contract Tower program, aiming to handle heavy flight traffic more safely. With up to 600 daily takeoffs and landings, officials say the tower's design and construction could take up to five years, but see it as crucial for capacity and safety.
   

• Big Mountain Fire progression slowed; Loafer Mountain Fire burns 3.5 acres (heraldextra.com) — A small wildfire is burning in remote terrain of Spanish Fork Canyon near Highway 89, where the Loafer Mountain Fire had reached about 3.5 acres by Monday but was not expected to grow significantly. Crews, including smokejumpers, worked overnight to build containment lines, while another blaze near Elberta was largely stopped at under 170 acres.
