Yahoo surveyed the 50 states for best life under the sun. Or why not, moon.

Vermont took the No. 1 spot out of the top five states nationwide for skiing and swimming, to name just a couple.

Hawaii came in at No. 2, while Colorado was third.

Montana picked up fourth place while Oregon came in at No. 5.

The Green Mountain State also took the top nomination for the bird watching category, according to Yahoo's Brittany Anas.

"Vermont's forests, wetlands and mountain ridges create habitats for a wide range of species," Anas said. "The state sits along key migratory paths so birders can spot everything from warblers in the spring to raptors in mud season."
