2. BDCC BizConnect returns to Brattleboro with free headshots (reformer.com subscription) — Local business owners and professionals in Brattleboro can sign up now for a free "Headshots & Handshakes" BizConnect networking event on Oct. 20 at Saxtons River Distillery. Hosted by BDCC with local partners, the evening offers complimentary professional headshots, chances to meet fellow entrepreneurs, and space-limited registration capped at 70 participants.
3. BMH names David Sanville Interim CEO (vermontbiz.com) — Brattleboro Memorial Hospital has named David C. Sanville interim CEO, providing leadership stability while the board searches for a permanent chief executive. At the same time, hospital leaders confirmed the Birthing Center and OBGYN services will remain open, easing recent community concerns about a possible closure tied to financial pressures.
4. Ava the Bernese Mountain Dog named Windham County's first pet mayor (reformer.com subscription) — Brattleboro-area residents just helped elect Ava the Bernese Mountain Dog as Windham County's first "pet mayor," following a Brattleboro Reformer contest that drew 99 entries and more than 4,000 votes. A celebration at Brattleboro Auto Mall also highlighted over $1,000 raised for the Windham County Humane Society and its work rehoming pets and supporting local families.
5. New federal funds expand rural nursing assistant training in Vermont (wcax.com) — New federal funding is helping expand licensed nursing assistant training across Vermont, including a Brattleboro Development Credit Corporation effort to boost programs in Windham County. The initiative aims to ease staffing shortages, especially in rural areas, by doubling class sizes, supporting nursing homes, and building a statewide resource hub so more residents can quickly enter health care careers without a college degree.
