Here are the top three stories in Burlington today:

  1. Special Olympics Vermont's Penguin Plunge raised over $500,000 during this year's event. Over 800 individuals participated by jumping into the extremely cold water of Lake Champlain. The funds will be used to support sports training, sports competitions, health screenings, and provide leadership opportunities throughout the region. (Local 22/44 News)
  2. Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger vetoed an ordinance that would tighten restrictions on short-term rentals throughout the city. The City Council initially approved the ordinance with an 8 to 4 vote last month. The proposed rule changes would have required renters to rent out their own homes or rooms within their own homes. It would have restricted the renting of separate units. (WCAX)
  3. Students at the University of Vermont's Larner College of Medicine celebrated Match Day on Friday. This event is when a senior medical student receives their residence match. Since classes for most students have been virtual, this was an extra special event for roughly 100 students as it was in-person. (WCAX)
